Aarkayne, I have already submitted the lyrics for the Mera Kuch Samaan song in a previous thread, and paste copy of it above.

It was mentioned previously in Songs of Rekha thread.
viewtopic.php?t=6680

As you have such fond memories of this song, you might want to submit for Zulm the translation you provided to your girlfriend come wife ! :D

Someone claimed these to be the most powerful lyrics, at least for now, that will be proven within 36 hrs.

Santa Claus is Coming-----

Any one with the full lyrics??

Let's know after 36 hrs if the proof was sufficient??

:)

When I first read the title of this topic...the first thing that came to my mind was Sahir's work in Pyaasa and Phir Subah Hogi...

from Pyaasa....Jinhe Naaz Hai Hind Par Woh Kahan Hain and Yeh Duniya Agar Mil Bhi Jaye to Kya Hai...

from Phir Subah Hogi - Chin-o-Arab Hamara and Woh Subah Kabhi To Aayegi....

Another film is coming up that seems to have powerful lyrics. Haven't heard the songs enough yet to grasp the full meaning, but lyrics of ZINDA seem pretty strong. Like, Kya Main Zinda Hoon and Kyon Main Zinda Hoon. Must be reflecting a very depressing situation.

------------------

BTW, was this SANGAM song mentioned before:
Dost Dost Na Raha, ---

And this Roti Kapda Makaan song:
Aur Nahin Ab Aur Nahin.-----

Been a while since posting anything here, but found this one from a long time ago on my laptop.

A humble, feeble attempt at capturing the beauty of the original :

Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal Jaye
Sanjh Ki Dulhan Badan Churaye
Chupke Se Aaye
Mere Khayalon Ke Aangan Mein
Koi Sapnon Ke Deep Jalaye

Kabhi Yun Hi Jab Hui Bojhal Sansen
Bhar Aai Baithe Baithe Jab Yun Hi Aankhen
Kabhi Machal Ke Pyar Se Chal Ke
Chhuye Koi Mujhe Par Nazar Na Aaye
Kahin Door...

Kahin To Yeh Dil Kabhi Mil Nahin Paate
Kahin Pe Nikal Aaye Janmon Ke Naate
Thami Thi Uljhan Bairi Apna Man
Apna Hi Hoke Sahe Dard Paraye
Kahin Door...

Dil Jane Mere Saare Bedh Yeh Gehre
Hogaye Kaise Mere Sapne Sunehre
Yeh Mere Sapne Yehi To Hai Apne
Mujhse Juda Na Hoge Inke Yeh Saaye
Kahin Door...

Into the horizon, as the day retires,
The Evening bride, steps gingerly inside,
Tiptoeing into the verandah,
Of my lonely thoughts,
Quietly igniting dreams alight.

Without reason the breath grows heavier,
Then teardrops welled, for no reason or rhyme,
Featherweight pranced, someone into my mind,
Fleetingly touched, left no footprint behind.

Once every while, when hearts did'nt unite,
Reincarnated relationships, appeared generations later,
Problems stood still, but the fickle mind,
Picked up grievings, of a life left beind.

This heart it holds, secrets rather deep,
In the know of hues golden , that dreams turned
After all these are what, I can call my own,
Their shadows shall linger, long after.

I simply love this song;
Lakshya
Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Javed Akthar
Hari Haran, Sadhana Sargam

Quote:
Hariharan:
Kitni baatein yaad aati hai
Tasveerein si ban jaati hain
Main kaise inhein bhooloon
Dil ko kya samjhaaun

Sadhana:
Kitni baatein kehne ki hai
Honton par jo sehmi si hai
Ik roz inhein sun lo
Kyun aise gum-sum ho

Hariharan:
Kyun poori ho na paayi daastaan

Sadhana:
Kaise aayi hai aisi dooriyaan

Hariharan:
Dono ke dilon mein chhupa hai
Jo ik anjaana sa gham
Kya ho paayega woh kam
Koyi kya kahe

Sadhana:
Dono ne kabhi zindagi ke
Ik mod pe bhi jo paayi
Hai kaisi woh tanhaai
Koyi kya kahe

Hariharan:
Kitna viraan hai ye sama

Sadhana:
Saanson mein jaise ghulta hai dhuwaan
Kaisi aayi hai aisi dooriyaan

Hariharan:
Kitni baatein yaad aati hai
Tasveerein si ban jaati hain
Main kaise inhein bhooloon

Sadhana:
Tumse aaj yun milke dil ko
Yaad aaye lamhein kal ke
Ye aansoon kyun hai chhalke
Ab kya kahen

Hariharan:
Tumne hamko dekha jo aise
Toh ik umeed hai jaagi
Phir tumse pyaar paane ki
Ab kya kahen

Sadhana:
Aa gaye ham kahaan se kahaan

Hariharan:
Dekhe mudke ye dil ka kaarvaan
Kaisi aayi hai aisi dooriyaan

Sadhana:
Kitni baatein kehne ki hai
Honton par jo sehmi si hai
Ik roz inhein sunlo
Kyun aise gum-sum ho

Hariharan:
Kitni baatein yaad aati hai
Tasveerein si ban jaati hain
Main kaise inhein bhooloon
Dil ko kya samjhaaun

The title song of Dil To Pagal Hai also has wonderful lyrics written by the late Anand Bakshi.

Another song with hard hitting lyrics is from IZZAT (Dharminder - Tanuja)

Kya Miliye Aise Logon Se
Jinki Fitrat Chhupi Rahe
Nakli Chehra Saamne Aaye
Asli Surat Chhupi Rahe

Well I am new to this forum - my first post here ...

One of the most moving and thought provoking lyric for me would be that for the song "Swapan Jhade Phool Se" from the film Nai Umar Ki Nayi Fasal. This song was actually a poem written by Neeraj (of "Phoolon Ke Rang Se" from Prem Pujari fame) and is another commentary on the shattering of the Indian independence dream (much like Sahir's "Jinhen Naaz Hai" from Pyaasa) for the Indian youth. This song is sung by Rafi for the film but I am told that the poet Neeraj himself used to recite this to stunned audiences.

wow. I agree about "Swapan Jade Phool ke" That IS a powerful poem. Rafi has rendered it beautifully.

Got hold of Dharamputra (B R Chopra's) DVD. This song, is not from Dharamputra. Does any one remember, which film is it from ??

(BTW, google search for "hindu banega na muslemaan banega" yielded only one result. This Link. So, must update this info.

BTW, Dharamputra does have powerful lyrics in song:
Yeh Kiska Lahoo Hai, Yeh Kaun Maraa (picturised on Rajendra Kumar)

Mera Kuch Samaan - Ijaazat

Its often been said that no one has ever depicted lost love better than Gulzar in this song. Certainly no one has rendered it better than Asha Bhosle in this song....

The song is more prose than poetry, and the language appears rather simple, but seems to convey so much depth!

Mera kuch saamaan tumhare paas paDa hai
Saawan ke kuch bheege bheege din rakheN hain
Aur mere ek khat mein lipti raat paDi hai
Woh raat bhuja dho
Mera woh saamaan lauTaa do...

PathjhaD hai kuch...hai na?
PathjhaD mein kuch pathon ki ghirne ki aahaT
Khanon mein ek baar pehne ke lout aayi thi
PathjhaD ki woh shaaq abhi tak kaamp rahi hai
Woh shaaq ghira do
Mera woh saamaan lauTaa do

Ek akeli chatri mein jab aadhe aadhe bheeg rahe the
Adhe sookhe aadhe geele
Sookha to main le aayi thi
Geela man shaayad bistar ke paas paDa ho
Woh bhijwa do
Mera woh saamaan lauTaa do

Ek sau solaah chaand ki raatein
Ek tumhare kaandhe ka til
Gheeli mehendi ki khushboo
Jhoot moot ke shiqwe kuch
Jhoot moot ke waade bhi sab yaad kara doon
Sab bhijwa do
Mera woh samaan lauTaa do..

Ek ijaazat de do bas.
Jab isko dafnaooNgi
Main bhi wahin so jayoongi..
Main bhi wahin so jayoongi..

Anyone up for translation into English?

I believe i owed this to Armaan for a while now :-)....here goes !!!!

A few of my belongings,
Held captive with you,
Some wet monsoon days,
Also in your custody.
And in the folds of a letter,
I wrote you, lies entwined a night,
Pray extinguish it now,
Return me my belongings......

There are autumns, yes?
Ringing in the sounds of leaves,
I once wore those soft footfalls,
As earrings and returned away.
A twig from that branch,
Shivers yet from the act,
Pray free the branch?
And return me my belongings......

Underneath an umbrella once,
We walked half drenched,
In a quasi soaked, semi dry state,
I’d come home with the dry half,
fear half a drenched mind,
Lies unattended near your bedstead.
send it forth urgently will you,
And with it the rest of my belongings.

Sixteen and one hundred moonlit nights,
And that pesky mole on your shoulder,
Fragrance of wet hennaed hands,
Some mock complaints feigned,
Some never to be requited promises,
I remember all, send them back,
Please return me my belongings,

In the end also permit this,
When I bury them all,
Lie alongside in peace.
