^ LOL!
You were allowed? :-P

It looks good but cropped from 2.20 to 2.35!! :(

How did you like the Dolby Atmos sound?

I guess one shot did not matter to them ;-)

I saw it twice -- DT DLF-Promenade (Vasant Kunj) Delhi -&- PVR Saket Delhi.

Dolby Atmos would have sounded better with a bigger than 5.1 system I think. The surround (all of it is actually re-recorded with additional sounds added for ambient elements like animals, crowd etc) was great! But somehow this newly-recorded high quality high fidelity surround sound made the movie a little less menacing. More on that later...

The 3-d was good! In fact way better than that in 47 Ronin also running nowadays. There was good layered depth behind the screen, and there was the occasional bullet or log or splinter flying out of the screen -- they got the balance right -- it was not overdone :-)

Regarding AR, I would suggest don't measure the shot I took, but look for what all is there in the image. The shot in itself is 2.20:1 but my hands could have been angled incorrectly, and it could well be 2.35:1. Meanwhile, I don't think the 70mm version measured 2.35:1 -- not sure.

All in all, a great experience, but it's a brand new Sholay -- a new film altogether.

I understand the dilemma you went through. No Dolby Atmos theaters in Delhi. But I could hear sound from everywhere. The sad part is that none of the original soundtrack was retained. They skimmed off the dialog channel only. But was great! A new Sholay as you said.

No! I'm not measuring it from this shot. The original 70mm was 2.20 indeed, but the 3d version in the theatre I saw was cropped from the original 2.20 to 2.35 to fill up the 2.35 screen :ffs: :bangbang:

So I thought that the case here is similar ;)

Let's all check our DVDs and compare the scene I posted above.

Picture content in this shot is top and bottom cut off from what's in Director's Cut 4:3 EROS DVD. Obviously 40-45% cut off at top and bottom.

DEI-EROS picture content, as we know, is cut even further as sides too have been cut off.

Caralotta PAL DVD (Best Sholay DVD so far) picture content is similar to what's in this screen shot (40-45 % cut off ofrom 4:3 EROS DVD). Actually, Caralotta DVD picture is slightly cut off at top and bottom compared to this screen shot. At bottom picture is cut off at Dharmendra's bottom button (see two white dots). Same amount is cut off at the top too.

Director's Cut EROS DVD picture is 4:3. Has the most picture. No other DVD edition or theatrical Sholay-3D has extra picture coverage in any of 4 sides. (all are 40-45% picture coverage cut; DEI-EROS is 50-60% cut as it's cut from sides too).

Director's Cut EROS DVD picture is 4:3 but CC is 2.35:1 and hardly readable. CC date it shows is Aug 12, 1975. Film Gage appears to be filled in as 35mm. Film Length is not readable. Guaranteed, there is no co-relation between CC and film content (Censors never passed what's in Director's Cut).

There are no Dolby Atmos equipped theaters in Delhi. So what you heard, is just the regular Dolby Digital track.

Got some time off and watched it the 2nd time ;)

Can watch it all my life!!

BTW, there's a major goof. You can see Thakur's hand in one shot when he tries to kill Gabbar in the climax scene.

Personally I don't mind it and feel that it is as perfect as it can be.

I was wondering if you used red/cyan glasses or was this done using the RealD 3D technology.

I don't think those glasses were red-cyan. My guess would be RealD 3D technology was used.

In Delhi, at least in DT Cinemas Vasant Kunj (Promenade Mall) and PVR Saket, Sholay was shown in digital passive 3D format with passive 3-D glasses (lighter than active 3D glasses) -- there's no red/blue in digital 3D -- these have the same colour, only polarized differently.

What I think is that it'd have been better if they used the OST source for the songs (voices) and maybe even the instrumentals. Because the voices of the songs of the 3D version sounded pretty bad and the voices are highly superior in terms of quality.

They could've taken care of all that :(
