It was promoted though as if RGV directed the film himself, but the movie flopped anyhoo. It's directed by JD Chakravarthy (Satya lead). The movie title is "Madhyanam Hatya" aka Afternoon Murder.

From the description it looks similar to "My Wife's murder" which is releasing in June. Considering the cast, I would rather watch the hindi version

Also it shows that a good critic doesnt make a good filmmaker.

That’s not true , The entire French New Wave was built atop of such critics as Truffaut, Godard, Rohmer, Rivette and they all turned out to be excellent film makers. Our own Satyajit Ray/Riwtik Ghatak were great critics, they regularly wrote about films and it helped them shape their carrier as filmmakers. Satyajit Ray’s article blasting popular films in India landed him his first job as art director (which he later quit !). Another wonderful example is Donald Ritchie ( the Japanese film/cultural guru) – he was/is a successful avant-garde film maker .So the list goes on and on ...

It is true that not all critics can be filmmakers, but there has been shining examples in world cinema where it turned out to be so and I am glad it happened ( hoping a similar Indian New Wave will come through !)

I have no intentions to sound like an elitist prick. But here's a quick pop quiz for ya dvdisoil: (and YES! this is out of nowhere)

What hindi film did Satyajit Ray consider to be one of India's finest film?

This question is open to anyone actully. Grand prize to the winner is that they can, for one day only, be my close and personal friend

Could it be Bimal Roy's Do Bigha Zameen ?? - i seem to remember he called it a 'landmark' film .

Found this online so maybe dvdsoil is right:

Satyajit Ray once remarked, "Bimal Roy is undoubtedly a pioneer. With his first film, he was able to sweep away the cobwebs of the old tradition and introduce a realism in Indian cinema, with the internationally acclaimed Do Bigha Zameen in 1953.

I watched 'D' last night, and overall I thought it was good.

POSSIBLE SPOILER

However I felt this could have easily been a prequel to "company". Change "deshu" to "malik" and Hashim Bhai to "Aslam Bhai" and then just change the ending so that hashim bhai and deshu put their differences behind them, and then end it with Chandu's entry, but of course we wouldn't actually see Chandu and the gang. ( kind of like how "red dragon" ended with jodi foster's character coming to meet hannibal lector, but we don't really see her).

well, in a way i guess u can call it that since it depicts deshu's rise as a don, with the film ending long before he starts working for aslam bhai. but, for me it just didn't work as a prequel. on its own, I think it's a very good film though. hashim bhai has back problems, and in "company" aslam bhai has the same, so there's a connection there. but at the end, deshu and hashim bhai are enemies. I would've also liked to see the characters such as "punditji", "yadav", "joseph" etc joining deshu. I dunno, I guess the movie ended too quickly. I wish they had lengthen the movie.

Or maybe I was expecting too much. prior to the release, i had heard that it's a prequel, and i believed it would end where "company" starts.

But as it is, I still like the film, and wouldn't mind owning it on dvd (if it's decent enough).
