As zulm.net activity has gone down starting 2018, many Passing Away news may not have been posted in the year 2018. Not sure if this thread will revive activity to 2006-2017 levels in the coming years ??.
On the positive note, this thread has got included most of the "Indian Film Personality Passes Away" news between Years 2006-2017.

There are also a few other threads of "pre-2006" Passing Away postings

Mayuri commits suicide

June 16, 2005 14:46 IST

A 22-year-old Tamil actress, Mayuri, committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Chennai, police announced today.

The incident, which happened yesterday, occurred when her family members were not at home.

A note, found in the room where she committed suicide, said "I have lost faith in life" and was addressed to her brother, said the police.

Mayuri has acted in films like Kumbakonam Gopalu, Manmadan, 7G Rainbow Colony and Whistle. She has also acted in some Malayalam and Kannada films.

Even though I don't have knowledge of Tamil film industry, Mayuri name seems to be that of a popular actress.

Any further insight??

Actress Nadira is no more

Last Updated: February 09, 2006 15:25 IST

Famous actress of yesteryears Nadira died after prolonged illness at a hospital in Mumbai early Thursday morning. She was 73.

Nadira was admitted to Bhatia hospital on January 2 after a paralytic stroke. She was also suffering from other complications and had been in coma, doctors said.

Nadira was staying all alone in a flat in south Mumbai.
Nadira made her foray in the film industry in the 1950s with the film Aan. She also appeared in Shree 420, Dil Apna Preet Parayee and Julie.

http://www.rediff.com/movies/2006/feb/09nadira1.htm
She made her foray into Bollywood in the 1950s -- when women were expected to look demure and do only 'positive' roles -- and gave new meaning and depth to the character of the 'bad girl', playing the confident, often sensuous young woman who was not afraid to get what she wanted.

Her arched eyebrows, as she wooed Raj Kapoor in the song Mud mud ke na dekh in the classic Shree 420 (1955), will remain etched in the memories of movie lovers for a long time.

She was part of some of Hindi filmdom's most well known movies, starting off with Aan (1952) -- the movie directed by Mehboob Khan in which Nadira played the fiery Princess Rajashree -- and featuring in classics like Waris (1954), Dil Apna Aur Preet Parai (1960), Kamal Amrohi's Pakeezah (1971), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), and Saagar (1985).

Nadira won the 1975 Best Supporting Actress Filmfare Award for her portrayal of the protagonist's mother in the film Julie.

The Shah Rukh Khan starrer Josh (2000) was her last Bollywood film.

She also featured in Ismail Merchant's English film Cotton Mary (1999) and Pooja Bhatt's Tamanna (1997).

Born in Israel as Florence Ezekiel, Nadira was a spinster and has no immediate family in India. She is survived by two brothers, one in the United States and one in Israel.

PADMINI (Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Mera Naam Joker fame):

Actress Padmini dead

September 25, 2006 10:31 IST
Last Updated: September 25, 2006 13:18 IST

Padmini, legendary actress of yesteryear and a famous exponent
of Bharat Natyam, died of a heart attack in Chennai at 3 am
Monday morning.

The actress, who was amongst the first heroines to make it big in
the Tamil film industry, breathed her last at Apollo Hospital. She was 74.

Padmini -- who was the second of the three famous Travancore
Sisters, along with Lalitha and Ragini, who passed away earlier --
made her last public appearance at a function to felicitate Tamil
Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi on September 23.

Karunanidhi, on hearing of her death said, "I do not know how Death
had the heart to swallow a beautiful and rare artiste. She was a
star among the stars."

Padmini acted in more than 250 Tamil, Malayalam, Hindi, Telugu
and Kannada films since 1949.

Born in Poojappura in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, on
June 12, 1932, Padmini made her debut in the Hindi film Kalpana. Her
first Tamil film was Manamagal (1950) made by the legendary
N S Krishnan.

Her memorable Tamil films include Ethirparadhadu, Meenda
Sorkam, Uttama Puthran, Theiva Peravi, Thooku Thooki,
Mannandi Mannan, Madhurai Veeran, Raani Samyukta,
Rajarajan, Rickshawkaran, Arasilankumari, Punarjanmam,
Amara Deepam, Vanjikottai Valliban, Chitti, Kuzhandaikaga,
Pesum Deivam, Erumalargal, Thillana Moganambal,
Vietnam Veedu, among others.

Padmini paired with the late Sivaji Ganesan and M G Ramachandran
in many films. She also starred with Raj Kapoor in Jis Des Mein
Ganga Behti Hai, Aashiq and Mera Naam Joker.

If Gemini Ganesan-Savitiri
and MGR-Saroja Devi were a formidable pair in 1950s and 1960s,
the Sivaji-Padmini combination was lethal in films like
Uttamaputtharan and Thillana Moganambal. Movie watchers remember
her powerful dialogue delivery in Theiva Peravi. Padmini also gave
a stupendous performance in MGR movies like Mannadhi Mannan,
Rani Samyukta and Madurai Veeran.

The three Travancore Sisters did act together in the Tamil film
Thoothu Thooki.

Padmini, affectionately called Papi, had a style of her own and
gave memorable performances in her films.

In an interview to a local television channel, she recalled how the late
P S Veerappa, villian and actor, encouraged Vyjayantimala Bali and her
to dance with enthusiasm to the song Zillu zilluvenru zorai zakatai aithiduvena in Vanjikottai Valiban, which had Veerappa's famous
dialogue: 'Sabash sariana potti (Sabash, excellent competition)'.

During the Indo-China War in 1962, Padmini went to army camps
and entertained soldiers with her dance-drama performance. Late
Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was impressed with
her performance as a teenager.

She was a member of the Congress party and gave speeches in
many political meetings during the 1967 and 1971 Lok Sabha
and assembly elections for the party.

Padmini was showered with accolades for her performance in the Hindi
film Chanda Aur Bijli with the late Sanjeev Kumar.

Padmini's favourite directors were Raj Kapoor, V Shantaram,
Guru Dutt, Sridhar and K S Gopalakrishnan, among others.

Nicknamed Natiyaperoli (a great light of dance), she would
completely involve herself in the characters she enacted --
whether she played a dancer in Thillana Mohanambal or a middle
class Brahmin woman in Vietnam Veedu.

Her early Malayalam hits were Snehaseema, Umminithanga,
Adhyapika, Vivahitha and Kumara Sambhavam.

She ended her film career after her marriage to
Dr K T Ramachandran, and left for the US, where she started the
popular Padmini School of Fine Arts in New Jersey.

But she made a comeback after marriage with Malayalam
films Nokkethahtadoortahtu Kannumnattu and Vashthuhara, which
made her immensely popular among new generation film buffs.

A disciple of eminent choreographer Guru Gopinanth, Padmini hailed
from an illustrious family of artists. Besides her sisters Lalitha and
Ragini, her cousins Sukumari and Ambika were also popular in
South Indian film world.

Padmini is survived by a son, Prem Ramachandran, who works
with Warner Brothers, and lives in the United States.

A classical dancer, Padmini started learning dance at the age of four
and entered the film industry in 1949.

Family sources said the funeral will take when her son returns from
the US.

O P Nayyar dies of heart attack
Quote:
Mumbai, Jan. 28 (PTI): Legendary music director O P Nayyar, best known for classic songs like "Jhumka Gira Re" and "Pukarta Chala Hoon Mein", died of cardiac arrest at his home in Thane today. He was 81.

Rani Nakhwa, with whose kin Nayyar was living for over 10 years after being estranged from his family, said, "He was perfectly alright until 3:30 pm, when he went to the toilet and collapsed inside. He was dead before we could summon medical help."

Born on January 16, 1926 in Lahore (now in Pakistan), Omkar Prasad Nayyar got his first break as a music composer in the film "Kaneez" (1949).

Director Guru Dutt's "Aar Paar" (1954) was his first major success. This led to his successful partnership with Dutt on films like "Mr And Mrs 55" and "CID".

As news of his death spread, a pall of gloom descended on Bollywood, where Nayyar was regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time even though he had not been in the limelight for close to three decades.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt described Nayyar -- who was always seen in public in white attire and a hat -- as "an audacious man who was a king in his time".

"Asha Bhosle owes whatever she is to him. The distinct sensuality that was injected into Asha's singing was the contribution of this extraordinary man," Bhatt said.

Extensive use of the typical Punjabi rhythm was the main characteristic of Nayyar's music, and among his evergreen tunes were "Kahin Pe Nigahen Kanhi Pe Nishana" (CID), "Mang Ke Saath Tumhara" (Naya Daur) and "Ello Main Hari Piyan" (Aar Paar.

Nayyar worked extensively with singers Geeta Dutt, Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi but never with Lata Mangeshkar. Though he mostly composed music for north Indian films, he also did the score for some southern films, including "Neerajanam" (Telugu).

Before fading from the Bollywood scene in the early 1970s, he did the music for hits like "Naya Daur", "Ek Musafir Ek Hasina" and "Kashmir Ki Kali". He attempted a comeback in the 1990s with the film "Andaaz Apna Apna" and recently appeared in the musical TV show "Sa Re Ga Ma", on which he was accorded a standing ovation during a programme dedicated to his songs.

Actress and Censor Board chief Sharmila Tagore, who starred in "Kashmir Ki Kali", said, "We will remember him and his contributions will be there forever. His name will be there as long as there is the history of music."

Singer Manna Dey said he was saddened by Nayyar's death as no one could replace him. Actor Rajesh Khanna said "originality was the symbol" of Nayyar, whom he described as a "charismatic personality".

TV star and actress Tabassum said, "O P Nayyar's death is yet another shock for us. We were still to recover from the sorrow at the demise of (noted writer) Kamleshwarji when we heard of the death of kind-hearted Nayyar sahab."

O P Nayyar's music sure was melodious. I'm pasting a list of films (picked from imdb) for which O P Nayyar was the Music Director. I'm highliting the ones that I remember liking the music a lot. Other films that I don't recall at the moment, sure must have melodious music too; I'll try to find and listen.

"Nayyar had lined up great plans in the last few weeks before he died" - Jackie Shroff
By R.Manishaa, Bollywood Trade News Network

The late O.P. Nayyar, who was going through an
identity crisis in the last few years of his life, had lined up some
grandiose plans in the last few weeks of his life, one of them being
a massive show in London that was to take place in June. The show
had been coordinated by actor Jackie Shroff who regularly kept in
touch with the music director and inquired about his well-being.
"I was introduced to him by my businessman friend, Ajay Savla,
a few years ago. He treated Ajay like his grandson and the two of
us would meet at least once a week over dinner. Nayyar had only a
month ago given his nod for a show to be held in London, which we
had tried to co-ordinate through my show organizer friend in London.
It is sad that he left us before that," Jackie recalls.

Both Savla and Jackie recall that the show was a dream project
for Nayyar. "He would have been happy to see his Asian fans
endorsing his music there. He was eagerly looking forward to it,"
he says. Moreover, he had also had a long telephonic conversation
with Salman Khan, who was rehearsing for a show to be held later
this month. "Salman had a lot of respect for him and spoke to him
for a long time despite the fact that his show organizers were waiting
for him. He and his family adored Nayyar-saab and his music. In fact,
I and Jackie had lined up a meeting between him and Salman that was
to take place at the end of this week," Savla recalls.

Savla who had known Nayyar as his uncle's friend was among the
two people, with whom he shared the joys and sorrows of his life,
besides his adopted daughter Rani Nakhwa. According to Savla, it
was Rani who adopted him as a fatherly figure and got him to shift in
her house with her family. "Nayyar saab was staying as a paying guest
at Thane and Rani used to run a telephone booth in Thane, from where
he would make calls to producers. She requested him to move into
their house and they were kind enough to even give him a separate
room. They treated him like a king in their small home, looking after
his needs, tastes, likes and dislikes. He had become more than a
family member to them and was staying with them since the
last 12 years," he reveals.

Savla adds that both he and Jackie were saddened by
the indifference of the industry towards Nayyar, a fact which
he occasionally mentioned, when he met them. "He often looked
desolate and felt that some of his best friends and admirers, did not
even bother to call on him," Jackie reveals. Also, there was a point
of time, according to Ajay Savla, when he had to forego his lavish
style and come to terms with a simple and modest living when
the payments due to him did not come. "At one point of time, he was
the highest paid music director in the industry. Also, he was the only
music director who commanded the entire royalty for his music and
made it conditional that he would not split it with anyone. Ironically,
the same companies who flourished on his music backed out of
paying their royalty due to him by claiming that they were going
through losses. Even the people whom he had loaned money in
the industry," Savla reveals. The biggest irony according to him was
the fact that despite being one of the topmost music directors in
the industry in his heydays, there was not a single Bollywood
celebrity from the industry at his funeral. "There was only Anu Kapoor
who made it a point to pay his respects, besides a few
non-film acquaintances. More disappointing was the presence of a
leading politician who used the opportunity to establish his presence in
the media and simply ignored his adopted daughter."

Jai Santoshi Maa actress dies of heart attack
By IndiaFM News Bureau, June 20, 2007 - 11:55 IST

Anita Guha, who became famous after playing the lead role in the 1975 blockbuster, Jai Santoshi Maa/ passed away last night following a cardiac arrest. She was in her 70’s. Guha was suffering with bad health since a while and was also hospitalised.

Guha had come down to Mumbai to take part in a beauty pageant and landed up with film assignments. She did a number of films in her career, but it was her portrayal of Sita in Sampoorna Ramayan in 1961 that made her famous. This success was followed by Jai Santoshi Maa (1975) which was one of the biggest hits of that era. Anita also starred in Sanjog (1961) and multi-starrer Nagin (1976).

Guha was good friends with veteran actresses, Mala Sinha and Helen.

------------------------------------------
As I remember froms 60s-70s, Anita Guha appeared in lots of religious films.
imdb.com lists only 30 films to her credit but I'm sure there are countless more.

OMG! I saw his interview with Madan in Vijay TV few weeks back, he was talking about his movie shooting in Russia etc. He was saying that Unnalae Unnalae is a common thing in any one's life and infact in his own life. Very young and makes different movies than the usual "masala" movie. Very sad to hear this news.
