'Aashiqui 2' Continues Phenomenal Run: Crosses 70 crore

Aashiqui 2 (BLOCKBUSTER) has become the best trending film at the box office since 3 Idiots as the fourth week comes in at nearly 7.50 crore nett which is more than every film released in the last ten years apart from Three idiots. Infact the fourth week collections are the third highest of all time. The four week total for the film is nearly 71 crore nett and the film will cross 75 crore nett.

The first four week collections of Aashiqui 2 are as follows:

Week One - 34.65 crore

Week Two - 17.35 crore

Week Three - 11.48 crore

Week Four - 7.39 crore


TOTAL - 70.87 crore


* 'Aashiqui 2' had a production budget of 6 crore and a further 6-7 crore cost of promoting.

I've never been a fan of any films box office business, but this film, comes across as one of the biggest box office surprise of recent times.

Just as 'Aashiqui' was a surprise blockbuster in 1990, 'Aashiqui 2' too has turned out to be a huge success. What is even more surorising is, that in the case of 'Aashiqui', it had the advantage of a hugely successful soundtrack. Why this one is so successful is the real mystery.

By the way, today's Hindustan Times had an advertisement from T-Series announcing the release dates for the DVD, BLUE-ray & VCD of 'Aashiqui 2' on June 5th.
