I had previously had many run ins with issues about indian DVD piracy, and the fact many DEI discs had been duplicated, only today have i seen how bad the problem is, and tell you the truth nothing can be done about it..

I was at a mates video store, when a dodgy guy came in offering DVDs for £5 a piece.. after looking at the material it looked fake and i quickly told him to piss off.. but the guy told me to play the discs before buying them.. anywaay i tried a number of recent titles i.e. awara paagal deewana and humraaz and was amazed to see the dvds were total replicated discs of the original including a 5.1 soundtrack.. was amazed me further was the discs were dual layered, and seemed better than the original quality material used!! Not only did he have new Eros titles but older DEI titles... its crazy.. i think the distributers can do what they want but i dont think nothing can be done to avoid people buying these discs.. cos i know i bought some discs :)

Hi Faddy,

1) Whate indicated them to be fake??
The DEI-EROS titles that are still floating around, there is no identifiable difference between what is available now or what was available 2 yrs ago.

2) If they are replicated or copied, how can they be better than Original??

What indicated them as fakes was the lack of effort put into the covers and the images on the top of the CDs.. not only that the guy selling em told us straight that they were replicated discs.. hence being cheap...!!

I ment the quality of the media used.. we have seen many discs being used by main distributers which are poor quality.. the discs used by the pirates were much better and im sure they wont suffer from DVD-Rot like many of the other asian titles!!

Concerning these replicated discs of new films - I'm having doubt that they are unauthorised replicated discs. I think they are the same discs that go on sale in USA. These fake looking covers are done locally depending on which country the disc are gong to be sold – it make more economical sense to just ship DVD discs as they take less space than full case & cover. So covers might look cheap but the actual disc are exactly the same as others. I've got two of them Humraaz & YHJ - covers looks cheaply done but the actual discs are the same - I've seen the official released USA disc of Humraaz too and they are they same.

wow!today was :p *Buy Your Replicated Discs Day* :p at a lil indian festival here...dvds were bieng sold for 4-5 pounds each.. i bought K3G..exactly same as original..except non-anamorphic and 2 channel sound..otherwise everything da same...day had like every movie...even some old original ones...i saw devdas there which looked like an eros original...it was really neatly presented...
concerning the shitty covers-same disc fiasco..i actually had a case..which was opposite of that...same cover..shitty disc(Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam). :keh:
I also got the shock of my life today :keh: (not)when i went into the local indian shop..and i was asking da store manager about the k3g double disc set..and this guy comes up from behind me..hands the store manager this page of HOLOGRAM stickers for YR Films and EROS...and man they looked genuine..

A page of hologram stickers for YRF and Eros? Then that shop must be official replicators for the mentioned companies, cos all original DVDs have holograms on them  :stupid: :baaa: ???

With a lot of movies, I go for the VHS copies that you can get at any shop - when people like WEG release a DVD like Chhal, which has a non-anamorphic cropped picture, with 2ch sound, then what's the point in wasting money on DVD when you can get a VHS copy of it for £4?

yes they were very good replicated discs... for discs which had extras such as CT Lagaan R1 the extras were stripped out and it was transferred in a non anarmophic feature... which was crap.. but discs that dont have extras and have loads of goodies, then they were exact replicated discs and were perfect in qualities... i will try and get some screengrabs if i get the opportunity!!
