Anyone ever purchased from this site - it appears to ship internationally...

I am thinking of buying some VCDs - do these play in a DVD player or do you need a separate player for them? And do they have song and chapters menus?

Also, I am wondering about the quality of ULTRA brand and if they sell other brands like Shemaroo?

Any information would be useful, as I have never bought a VCD before or made online purchases from India...

Thanks

hi armaan,
1. Most of the dvd players of today play vcd without any prob. At least mine does play and I bought some vcds from them too.
2. They do have chapters & song menu.
3. Quality is good as well as average sometimes but considering the detiriorating dvd quality of indian dvds you can not go wrong.
4. I believe they also sell other brand vcds. Again I am not 100% sure.
Hope it helps.

wow..

they now comes with menus!?!?!!!! as for the print is concerned, it will definitely not going to be as bad some of the dvds that we see now-a-days. :D

ultraindia do carry wide range of brand name dvds. but too bad they don't make it clear, they have eros, video sound, shemaroo, everything you can name it.

what are their shipping charges?

For about 6 VCDs shipping was coming to about £6 = $9 (I forgot how much it was in rupees). Overall each VCD would work out £4 = $6 - its not bad provided their service is good, and the VCDs have song selection options, and the prints are as good as the best video tapes.

My main concern is the uncertainty associated with brands. As I never purchased VCDs before, I am wondering which are the best brands to look out for? So far I seen logos of Ultra, Shemaroo, Bombino, Eagle and few others. I seen some ULTRA screenshots which have the horrible ULTRA logo on top of the screen!

I think the site has Shemaroo DVDs too, but the brand is not made clear unfortunatee.

Hey,

Sorry for the late reply - only just saw this message now!

Ultraindia are a decent site - unfortunately it is pretty hard to determine between the brands. Your best bet is to e-mail them and ask them. I've got loads of VCDs from them without a problem, and I got 4 Shemaroo DVDs from them as well. If you need any more info, ask me, can't really think of anything else to write about them!

They take a while to reply to emails sometimes - surprisingly (!) they reply a lot quicker if you e-mail them after placing an order.........

:)

Two orders, no problem. DVD/VCDs arrived from India in less than 1 week. Excellent email correspondence. Highly recommended.

Not bad but not great either. Do not expect anamorphically enhanced, rogressive coded, etc. But all 8 DVDs I own are free from disc rot, and do not skip or freeze. The DVDs of the Guru Dutt films are the best and most complete out there, but not perfect by a long shot.
