Have any of you ordered from this retailer? The prices aren't much higher than India Weekly and they have free shipping. I thought about using them to get some DEI versions of films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam that I can't get at India Weekly.

Just curious on your experiences with them....

hindimovies.com has been around for a very long time as long as IW and IP. I've never ordered from them but in general be wary of what covers are displayed because the DVD they end up sending is different. With Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam they display the DEI cover, yet say it's by Video Sound. Always email the store first to ask or request the version you want - and if they send you a different one - send it straight back and ask for refund.

I emailed them and asked which version they carried. I got this response back:

"Thank you for visiting at http://www.hindimovies.com
We bring you The latest release and best quality."

Jeff I have never used Hindimovies.com and probably never will also. I know you are desperate for the HDDCS DVD...Just give it sometime (take a deep breath) and give Afzal some time and he will definately procure it for you :)

Sknath,

Thanks, I will do that. I love Indiaweekly. If I could get everything I want from them, I wouldn't dream of using anyone else.

Nonetheless, I am so thrilled that I decided to give a few Bollywood films a try. I am so hooked!! I can't believe these films don't get more exposure here in the States.

Films I've seen so far:

Lagaan
Sholay
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Satya

I know I've been watching what's considered the best of the best and not all Bollywood films are great like these. Based on what I've read, there's still a lot of great ones I haven't bought yet. I'm watching Fiza tomorrow night.

Jeff, I should know. All my friends are American and I've got them on Hindi movies. 'Fiza' is certainly the critical success it comes across as - most people cant believe the way it ends. If you liked 'Fiza' you should also see 'Zubeidaa' with Karisma Kapoor - its an artsy Indian film, and those are the kinds that kick Hollywood's sorry ass anyday!! Luckily 'Zubeidaa' is easily available in the US - the music is astonishingly good. The story is VERY different.

Theres a director called Mani Rathnam whose work I think best embodies the marvel of Indian moviemaking. Heres a list of his movies - if youre looking for the cream of Indian cinema, this would be your list - MOST are available in the US to buy:

1. Roja
2. Bombay
3. Dil Se
4. Iruvar
5. Alaipayuthey
6. Kannathil Muthamittaal
7. Thiruda Thiruda

You HAVE to see the above. Absolutely, totally. They are my favorites. 'Kandukondain' (http://www.geocities.com/kandukondainthefilm) stars Aishwarya too and is superb. The DVD for this is excellent too.
