How to check if media is Gold or Silver??
Arsh is expert in this. I started noticing Gold/ Silver media as per Arsh's clues. Basically, just look at the recorded side of a few DVDs, under bright light or daylight or ---, and you will notice some with Goldish tint, some Siver tint, some in-between and some dull Siver tint. 'Gold' has been the best lasting so far, in our experience.
DDLJ: Official DDLJ version from YRF is Progressive. Many have claimed of an un-official version that is better than the YRF version. I haven't seen it, so can't say. One thing to consider and to watch for is, whether that un-official copy is Progressive or not. Many interlaced DVDs have vibrant colors and may be better looking on interlaced displays, but on a large screen display, using a progressive system, a progressive DVD may be better. On the other hand, this un-official version may very well be progressive. 2-3 yrs back, some pirate DVDs too were Progressive. Another thing to check is whether proper 5.1 audio or not. Media whether Gold or cheap Silver is another criteria. Extras is another.
Based on all that, the only thing lacking in YRF version is/ may be somewhat dull picture. In every other respect YRF version is better.
Based on all that, I'll go for a genuine YRF copy but try for a bargain. Replicated version is another option, but is sure to be on an inferior media than the official YRF version.
BTW, out of YRF's K3G, DDLJ and Mohabatein, I'll rate K3G as the best, followed by DDLJ and then Mohabbatein (EROS's DEVDAS doesn't even come close). All three are progressive, true 5.1 audio and have a lots of extras.
