Hey folks, I'm new here and excited to see a Desi DVD forum, I'm a member of DVD Talk and HTR, and some other HT/DVD forums and was always looking for something on the Desi side...and here it is I guess....

Its really cooool to see some of these threads of desi dvds and stuff...anyways my question..

I was contemplating buying the original Dilwale Dulhaniya..Le jayenge...KG3 and Devdas...

So any reviews/input regarding these,,, like video quality, audio, extras basically a review and screenshots if could would be appreciated...

I saw the Devdas thread but it did not summarize the dvd quality of if it was worth $40.00 canadian...

Thanks....

what is worth now adays is what comes for 2in1 on gold media.

to me, no movies worth C$40, however there are some exceptions, like the following if they ever exist:

Sholay (with both endings, dvd authored by BEi with special features, gold media)
Mera Naam Joker (complete movie, dvd authored by BEi with special features, gold media)
Namkeen (complete movie, dvd authored by BEi with special features, gold media)

Ya I saw the 2 in 1 dvd disk here in toronto, are they really worth it? like the audio and video?

and when you say Gold media, is that a company name?

like I got a pirated K3G, I believe is from the original and it is good man, and when I say it needs to be good, it means that since I use a projector and a 110" screen.. and K3G does look good at that size..

So do the Gold media guys take it from the real DVD release, and is it 5.1?

Like I saw alot of threads trashing DDLJ release and they say the pirate is better quality?

So is the Goldmedias pirate of DDLJ better and in 5.1

Gold Media:

It is the quality of disc, not a company or brand name. Many Indian DVDs stop working after a few months. I think, it was Arsh who noted it first that DVDs that did not rot, had Goldish tint on the recorded side. Problematic DVDs were Silver in comparison. Thought was that Silver oxidizes quickly and Gold doesn't oxidize and hence DVDs with goldish tint last longer.

K3G:
K3G is one of the better DVDs from YRF and was authored progressively by Super Digital. Replicas or cheaper versions of the exact same DVD (and code) are often available. These may or may not be authorized versions. One thing for sure, original K3G DVD is very much Gold on the recorded side. How is your pirate K3G Veej??

Rana thanks for advice, I never knew about this problem, I don't really know if mine is gold or not,

Now one more question, how do you check if the DVD is gold or not since most of these pirate stuff is packed and can't open untill you buy it?

and do you know of any DDLJ pirate thats good as the original or better in 5.1 ( if you have a photo of the cover I can go by that)

thanks again../

How to check if media is Gold or Silver??

Arsh is expert in this. I started noticing Gold/ Silver media as per Arsh's clues.
Basically, just look at the recorded side of a few DVDs, under bright light or daylight or ---, and you will notice some with Goldish tint, some Siver tint, some in-between and some dull Siver tint. 'Gold' has been the best lasting so far, in our experience.

DDLJ:
Official DDLJ version from YRF is Progressive. Many have claimed of an un-official version that is better than the YRF version. I haven't seen it, so can't say. One thing to consider and to watch for is, whether that un-official copy is Progressive or not. Many interlaced DVDs have vibrant colors and may be better looking on interlaced displays, but on a large screen display, using a progressive system, a progressive DVD may be better. On the other hand, this un-official version may very well be progressive. 2-3 yrs back, some pirate DVDs too were Progressive. Another thing to check is whether proper 5.1 audio or not. Media whether Gold or cheap Silver is another criteria. Extras is another.

Based on all that, the only thing lacking in YRF version is/ may be somewhat dull picture. In every other respect YRF version is better.

Based on all that, I'll go for a genuine YRF copy but try for a bargain. Replicated version is another option, but is sure to be on an inferior media than the official YRF version.

BTW, out of YRF's K3G, DDLJ and Mohabatein, I'll rate K3G as the best, followed by DDLJ and then Mohabbatein (EROS's DEVDAS doesn't even come close). All three are progressive, true 5.1 audio and have a lots of extras.
