I recommend Philips 642 Player. its easy to make it region free and it plays Divx. I am not sure how good it is at playing Xvid, you might want to research on that little bit more. I gave it as a present to one of my friend and so far it has played everything that is thrown at it.

Pre-configured ( more expensive) – yeah I support DVDBeaver !

Hack-able (Cheap)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... s&n=172282

<< Ripped from DVDBeaver >>

1. Turn on the player.

2. Open the tray.

3. Press the following sequence on the remote:

7 8 9 OK 0

4. The number 0 will appear on the lower left side of your screen.

5. Your player is now region free! Put in a DVD and enjoy! :)

some talk on Xvid capability

Hope this helps

Thanks. You see i live in Norway and i searched on Norwegian shops on the net for the Philips 642, and the closest thing i got to was the 630 wich also plays Divx, but I don't know if it is Region free. Any comments about that one?

I have the Philips DVP630 almost a year. You can make the player Region free, just like dvdisoil said. Easy & it works fine !

The only problem I have with the DVP630 is, that the player sometimes automaticly turns itselfs off :?.

Few DVD players are being sold in the UK that do divx/xvid playback;

Cello DVD8105 DVD player being sold in Sainsbury supermarkets £35
Yamada 6600
Pioneer DV-575A-S

I'm sure you can find these in other countries too.

Check if you can get Daewoo (any model will do). All of Daewoo DVDs are region free, and most of them plays in 110V and 220V.
