Mumbai, November 25: Everyone connected with Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham is jittery as the D-day comes closer.
Karan Johar has been nervous from day one as `the expectations have been too high` from the maker of an all time hit like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. His success was well publicized and the hype around his second film was tremendous. Every time he signed someone it made news since the names were big.
After the initial speculations and denials the cast became clear. It was the biggest assembly of stars in recent times, and like Yash Chopra does, casting coups that would generate stories.
Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya were appearing together after twenty years!
Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, considered rivals, were together for the first time.
And Kajol and Kareeina were hot in the market when they were signed opposite Shah Rukh and Hrithik, respectively. Stories that indicated hostility between Kajol's husband Ajay and Shah Rukh made this pairing interesting for the media. Stories romantically linking Hrithik and Kareeina made them interesting copy.
There were immense possibilities.
But now that the film is ready for release, everyone is at a low in his career. For Karan Johar this is a test that, if he were successful, would place him in the league of Sooraj Barjatiya after Hum Aapke Hain Kaun or be brushed off as a one-film wonder.
Amitabh Bachchan has had Aks. His KBC too has touched nadir.
Shah Rukh Khan, already at a low step after One Two Ka Four, has gone further down after Asoka.
Kajol's last few films (including Raja Chacha and Kuch Khatee Kuch Meethi) have shown that viewers have no interest in a film that has a married heroine.
Kareeina has laid several eggs (including Refugee, Yaadein and Asoka) and in Ajnabee has lost the battle to a more sexy Bipasha Basu.
The charisma around Hrithik Roshan has diminished after Fiza, Mission Kashmir and more important, Yaadein. An over-exposure and too many ad films have finished him.
As for Amitabh and Jaya together, Indian viewers have always rejected married pairs.
Worse, the music is no great shakes.
At the last moment, Sony that had promised to distribute KKKG for Rs 42 crores, has backed out leaving Johars in the lurch. No wonder everyone connected with the film is panicky.
the last sentence proves to the forum information i had posted months ago on this forum about sony backing out...
