I just brought this dvd. The picture quality of this dvd is bad.
I have read all the reviews of this dvd and assuming this
would be close to mohabbatein( which it is self is not that great) , but no where near.
I am watching this on big screen(8 feet wide). It may be pirated or the original it self is that bad.
On the other hand the DVD of Gadar is ok( I was expecting worse), although it is not comparable with HNPH.
Any thoughts?

Problem with this DVD together with KKHH is that its non-anamorphic. On generally smaller screens the picture looks really good - view it on a bigger or hi-res screen and the problems of the lower resolution transfer become too obvious with flickering and aliasing artefacts all over the place. I would say same goes for the so called better version of Gupt DVD from Eros/B4U – on smaller screens it looks really good, bigger screens show too many flaws.

Thank you Ali. I have lot of dvd’s from DEI/EROS and also the famous EROS/B4U GUPT, which is video-based dvd just like DTPH. In general all DEI/EROS dvd’s are film-based dvd’s with good quality.

A while back, I had a chance to play some DVDs on a progressive scan DVD player which had an indicator showing "Film mode". It showed KKHH, KNPH, GUPT(eros-dei) as Film mode. DTPH didn't indicate Film mode. GUPT(eros-B4U), I have never seen. I suspect that like all other EROS-B4U DVDs, it too will not be in "Film mode".

On small TV (interlaced) screens, Video mode DVDs are O.K., but on Large Screen TVs or on Progressive TVs, the difference between Film mode DVD and Video mode DVD is dramatic. I too, found DTPH DVD as bad print, while KKHH is O.K.

P.S.
For my collection not to go obsolete soon, Except for a few cases, I don't buy Video mode DVDs and will never ever buy a DVD if made by "Film to PAL video to NTSC video".

I have always thought that the Dil To Pagal Hai DVD is atrocious. Infact everytime I see a review that says this is a good or decent quality DVD, it pisses me off and I really fail to understand how anyone can call this a decent DVD. I admit that the sound is pretty decent, again not great, but the picture quality really is very very bad. There are times when the picture is so blurred that it is difficult to make out the actors. The colors are totally washed out and .... I think you get the picture (no pun intended). I have actually seen pirated versions of the DVD that is by far superior in terms of picture quality.

PS: I don't have a big screen or projection TV. Just a 32" 16:9 Widescreen Interlaced TV is what I use.

I have waited for almost 2 years to buy this movie knowing the quality of Indian dvd’s, especially Yashraj. But finally after reading a recent review I have wasted my $17.00 for this crap dvd.
