Star Wars Original Trilogy on the way in September 2004!
It looks as though Lucasfilm Ltd. have finally given way to the pressure of fan groups worldwide and will release Star Wars: The original trilogy sometime in September 2004.

Although nothing has been officially announced, it is believed that during a recent gathering in San Francisco between Lucasfilm and retailers, they announced that A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back & Return of The Jedi would be released on DVD at long last. Also announced were details on the teaser campaign for Episode III which will start in January 2005 with the film hitting cinemas in May 2005 and a DVD release due in November 2005.

It is unclear if the DVD release of the original trilogy will follow that of Indiana Jones or if they will be separate releases. It is believed however that the Trilogy released will be the 1997 special editions of the movies complete with Dolby 5.1 surround.

Stay tuned for more as we get it…………..

I would rather have Lucas focus all his time and energy into making episode 3 an entertaining film after a so so episode 2!! He can then concentrate on releasing the DVDs for episode 4,5, & 6!!!!

I can understand why Lucus don't want to place special edition with seamless branching with the original cut. Both version has different grading and colour correction work. To use seamless branching would make the new scenes looked out of place.

Lucus should do two different releases. One release of the original cut and one release of the special edtion. Though personally I think the director has the right to decide which version should be on the market...after all they are his movies...

What ever the desicion just make sure quality will be great and that there are a couple of decent features...

I don't care if he releases a super-duper special edition as long as the originals are also widely available. Once a film is released, in a way it belongs to the people who watch it, especially if it is popular, and lots of people who were kids when the original films came out will never again see the films the Star Wars films they grew up seeing, except on VHS or LD. Why doesn't he take a clue from Spielberg and include both in one package?
