Titanic in 2 Disc and 4 Disc Special Editions?

American website “The Digital Bits” are reporting that James Cameron’s Titanic could hit R1 DVD later this year.

There have been rumours for a number of years now concerning such a release; however it is believed that studio insiders have confirmed Fox and Paramount are working on two disc and four discs special editions. Both versions will have brand new anamorphic transfers and possibly a DTS soundtrack. Let’s hope the insiders are correct.

This film is fascinating work. Personally this movie seems to have no redeeming factor, but god this is the ONE movie that has reached practically everyone - from tribes in Amazon forest to Auto Rickshaw drivers in India! . The “hugeness” of the movie has practically halted the prolific director’s movie making. Hard to believe that its been more than 6 years since Cameroon made a movie !!!

Big yawn.
HD media is here and soon on DVD too, so a new NTSC DVD is... big yawn. They are 5 years late. Gimme the new HD transfer. That's worth a look. The old is way too soft (I have it on D-VHS).

The old DVD was supposedly as good as a non-anamorphic letterbox DVD could get, so it will be interesting to see how the new DVD improves upon it. Paramount rarely disappoints in the video quality department.

I bought the 3 Disk version .. dont like the idea of the movie being split among two discs (thankfully I have a 5 disc dvd player  ) but if it means better quality then I am all for it. I have had a chance to glance over it yet but according to the reviews of the disc its pretty darn impressive! Will try to watch it this weekend ..

Looks to be a very detailed image with no EE or filtering.

This movie totally sucked, but I bought it to replace my old copy figuring my DVD collection should have the highest grossing movie of all time.

There is actually a 5-disk numbered limited edition DVD of Titanic that has also been released. The extra disc includes the Ghosts of the Abyss documentary where James Cameron goes underwater to examine the ruins of the Titanic.
