The film is really well shot by cinematographer Santosh Sivan, and Priyadarshan manages to capture the essence of a high class drama on cellouid. But the screenplay drags in places, particualy during the prision escape by Prabhu and Mohan Lal. Still a great attempt on a periodic prison drama set during the early 1900's.

But I would recommend watching the original Malayalam version. I think its released by Surya DVD Movies. Im not sure if its subtitled though.

EROS DVD version sucks and is not worth it, cropped image and also 5.1 mono sound which is a shame as the film was released with Dolby SR in Hindi and DTS in Malayalam/Tamil/Telugu.
