Did anyone see RANGEELA when it aired on Turner Classic Movies tonight????

I can't believe it. TCM is a great channel, but they are showing a TERRIBLE print of it.

Barely any color in the print, only letterboxed at about 1.85 (when the film was 2.35). I watched the opening scene and half the dancers are missing!!!!

Not only that, but the print is speeded up!!! I synced up the DVD with it and after a few seconds, the TV was way ahead of the DVD.

Doing a comparison with the DEI disc, well, there is no comparison. The DEI transfer looks so much better it is amazing. Lot of color, fully letterboxed.

Like I said, TCM is a great channel and the fact they are showing these films in the first place is to be congratulated. But why such awful versions? I think this may be the Media Digital transfer (with subtitles).

Yes, the transfer was pretty bad. The cropping adds to it and ruins the whole exprience. But this time the sound was in stereo. Atleast we have the awesome music by A R Rahman.

So far TCM has aired transfers that were originally PAL, the cause for the speed up. I only caught the last few minutes of DCH, but it was OAR but converted from PAL to NTSC.

Someone said these transfers came from the BBC?

I've only seen DCH and Sholay on there so far.

Even though I didn't enjoy DCH, the print was AWESOME! Compared to the pirate, the colour was just there, and it was flawless. If it was a DVD, it'd be the best Indian DVD.
