What DVD backup software do you guys suggest I get to start burning backup copies of some of my favourite DVDs. (Before someone blasts me for piracy etc I will only be backing up DVDs I currently own as I am pi$$ed off with some DVDs only playing a few times before they mess up)

I guess I need software (freeware if possible) like DVDdecrypter to rip the DVD to HD and then other software to spread over 2 DVDs to keep the quality (well what there is anyway). What software you guys suggest to squeeze the DVD9 discs to one DVD5 and to split over to 2 discs.

Also are most bollywood discs on DVD9 ?

i hire movies out and copy them without giving two shits about the the anit-piracy faggots!! Anyway use DVDDecrypter to extract the movie to your HDD... then u need a piece of software called DVD2ONE.. what it basically does, it compresses the whole disc or movie into 4.3gig... and then all u do is drag it over in record now max and voila a nicely copied disc... u seriously cannot tell the difference, unless u got a massive screen!! Ive compressed Anita and Me yesterday and stripped all the extras just leaving the menu and the movie and i didnt lose any quality of the movie wat so ever!!

Thanks for that.

What DVD media do you use. I do not want to get cheapo media to find my Pioneer 636 refuses to play it.

i got a NEC DVD+R recorder... works fine on anything ive thrown it at!! Actually i had a coaster today.. i ripped 8mile and it doesnt want to play.. but i think its the original.. i think its encoded in some fucked up way!! Anyway as for hiring movies... i dont normally hire em anyway, but i just borrow em of a mate who owns a video shop... so it dont really cost me much!! As for media.. i use all sorts.. but i buy the cheapest being a cheapskate!! :) im using Bulqpaq media at the moment... its only 95pence at the moment.. which is cheap!!!!! Heres DVD2One.. one of the best piece of dvd copying software available.. its amazing!!

dvd2one

I get ya, faddy i know it reduces the image down to fit on a dvdr (in some cases this doesn't need to be done) but does it keep the progressive etc etc? another thing, whats the quality drop like on desi dvds? and how long does it take to do 1?

not too sure if the disc is still progressive.. not like i really care.. As for the drop in quality... you can tell but very minimal!! With the likes of indian DVDs being shitty anyway, it wont really make a difference...!! I weigh up my options!! Would you spend £13 on a shitty DVD or spend £2 on a DVD which is same but just slightly shittier!!

Has anyone tried using DVD X Copy to back up their DVDs?

Supposedly it creates an exact copy of the original without any loss in video or audio quality. If the original is progressive the copy it creates will also be progressive! From what i've read about it, it usually takes two 4.7G DVDs for one 2 hour movie!!!

out!!!!!!!!
