I don't believe one can measure films like flour, and I know I'm in a minority on this, but while I liked GOODFELLAS, it didn't even come close to setting any high watermarks for me.

While I'd place TAXI DRIVER and RAGING BULL ahead of COMPANY, I'd take COMPANY over of GOODFELLAS anytime.

Best Gangster film of all time has to be Once Upon A Time In America (Europe Version) and Menace to Society!!

I actually prefered Satya over Company...dunno why but I found Company a bit OTT and clichéd to previous Indian gangster movies. However in Company the performances, editing and the shoot-out scenes shot in Kenya was raw and excellent.

Menace to Society was the first film that I saw that used the word F*CK for no reason watsoever.... Even till this day it shocks me!! but it is an excellent movie!! Movies like Casino, Goodfellas, Bronx Tale came after that... in all honesty i still havent seen the Godfather trilogy (mainly because i cant afford the boxset :bangbang: ) and Once upon a Time in America.. these r two movies i wanna watch but just never got round to it!

Regarding Company, its no where near as good as Goodfellas or any other Scorcese movie!!

I think Company is as good as Goodfellas but Satya is better.

As for the godfather movies. They are too slow and I get bored after an hour or so. I have the box set and in a year have barely managed to watch 2 of the Godfather movies.

In the same time I have watched Company 3 times and Satya around 5 times.

Satya is better than Company, and Goodfellas is better than both of them. I like Goodfellas better than The Godfather Trilogy. Don't get me started on Godfather III!

A 2 disc SE of Once Upon a Time in America is being released in R1. It is the director's cut, I think. I haven't seen this one.

I think there is something quite different between Indian gangster films and Hollywood ones (apart from the obvious).

I think Satya was better than Company overall, but I somehow enjoyed Company more. It's always these two films that are talked about, I wonder has everyone forgotten Parinda? Now that was a film that had some unexpected moments. There was also the tamil film Nayakan and the bollywood re-make Dayavan.

I think the best (hollywood) gangster film was Godfather part 1, although 2 comes close. Part 3 was just a waste. I hear they're thinking about making part 4.
Also don't forget Scarface and Carlito's way. There's 2 versions of Once upon a time in America, the longer one being nearly 4 hours!

I haven't seen Scarface in a while, but I remember thinking it was pretty campy. I'll revisit it when Universal releases an anamorphic DVD :)

Have you seen Gangs of New York? Leaving D-DL invigorating performances, I'd put Company over GONY anyday.

As for the best gangster film of all time? I'll stick to Godfather Part I. Though one could argue that it's more of a family drama than anything else. :hmm:

I thought COMPANY's strong points were its performances. But GOODFELLAS had a better script, kick ass performances, cinematography and editing. But they are both awesome in their own rights.

I have only watched 'SCARFACE' on horrible VHS pan&scan tape. I can't wait for the anamorphic widescreen dvd.

my favorite gangster movies:

Satya
company
godfather 2
bronx tale
goodfellas
casino
scarface
donnie brasco

Scorcese's "New York, New York" is soo underrated. It's one of my all time favourite Hollywood musicals. The guy can create magic in almost everything he touches.

I like "The King of Comedy," starring Robert De Niro.

why is ya'll comparing american movies with indian movies??? they basically 2 different stuff if u look at the picture quality, story, sound and so on.....i can give u a huge list of the best gangster films that are out there....however, so far what i liked from india which made the best gangster movie was "Satya" and "Shiva" .....company was more like stylish type....it was a gangster movie, but not real drama...some ppl say it was an actual event on the gangsta "david Dhaoon" however u spell his name, but the director says its not.....but "satya" was more like reality and based upon a true story, realistic, cursing, violence, blood, now thats what we call gangsta...company was nuttin like that....and comparing them to american films "satya" or any other indian movies are nothing.....there cant be any movie that is better than MIIS....peep these out if u haven't....the real side of the G'z :)

Mennace II Society (Best Black Gangsta Movie Ever Made)

Blood In, Blood Out or Bound by Honor (Best Hispanic Gangsta Movie Ever Made)

American History X

Higher Learning (Not Real, but does give you a good picture of how they feel towards other race....KKK vs. Black) good stuff!!!!!

One Eight Seven

Fresh

Gang Tape (Banned Movie)

Boyz N the Hood

Tales from the Hood (OK Movie)
