This film was made before 5.1 came to India, so I doubt the DVD will have a true 5.1 track. Was it mono or stereo?

Not too shabby. I hope they will start releasing classic films with decent quality now.

I just recieved my YRF copy of DARR. The only reason I bought this DVD was to do a comparison with my DEI/EROS copy. The differences seem minor but then again, to some they are core differences.

YRF, has an Anamorphic Widescreen, Dolby 5.1(seems pretty audible), Extras-Yash Chopra(as usual trying to butcher the english language) and the music launch . Run time:2:49

DEI/EROS has a 4:3 aspect ratio, from what I can tell and is cropped(compare screenshots), seems a tad grainer and darker in certain scenes but color and fidelity is pretty good, sharpness and contrast better than YRF. Shots taken in motion look much better in DEI/EROS. Run time:2:56
Below are the screenshots: Top YRF; Bottom DEI/EROS:

I do wonder why the difference in run-time between the two versions.

The time difference could be due to difference between PAL and NTSC (or miss mash of conversions done in between). Roughly PAL is 4% faster, so 2:56 NTSC would be about 2:46mins in PAL.
BBFC has reference run times too for film and video.
