Oh What A Year!

An almost $50 million loss in what seems to be the single most awful annual outcome for an industry that churns out the most number of movies in the world. Digest this: close to 150 productions, one bona fide national hit and a handful of pocket-hits (more about that later). 2002 is a year that the moguls of Bollywood would want to erase from their memory in a hurry. But this is not an article about moviemakers, nor is it about the pathetic numbers. It is about the much-abused, taken-for-granted, seemingly inconsequential entity: the audience.

The answer to the predicament that was 2002 is “look inside”. Inside India, inside its soul. This unique nation is no doubt bursting with its billion citizens, but is also replete with brilliant minds and fresh ideas. It would be a shame if we didn’t get to watch movies that made us cheer, clap or whistle in 2003. To be deprived of that orgasmic feeling of sitting in the darkness of a movie hall and get goose pimples watching the stars perform, get immersed in that enchanted experience, and let those 150 minutes bring a smile back to your face and a spring in your step. We do not want to be cheated of the most primary, fundamental form of entertainment that India knows…Cinema. We want it back! Long live Bollywood!

Worst article ever. I'm sorry to say.

It's easy to be extremely pessimistic and shoot down everything. I'm sorry, but many people actually loved the movies this year.

Saathiya was "halfway decent", Company was "watch able[sic]", and let's not even mention LOBS? And scene-for-scene remakes in Humraaz? Wow, this guy has serious problems...

My Bias? Sure thing Mr. "Lagaan was horrible, but every SRK film is absolutely brilliant".

Btw, that Radio Sargam article had ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with me. I was in the process of writing a feature like that, but, sadly, they posted this up first. I was just as disappointed. (Especially considering Raaz was released in 2001).

I was not surprised that 2002 was an awuful year for bollywood. As long as bollywood keeps trying to force on us people like Tushar kapoor, Esha Doel and the likes of them bollywood will suffer. I mean this guy Tushar Kapoor is an ugly and short as they come. He won't even be able to work as an extra in a movie if he was not Jetendra's son. I refuse even to read about a movie in which Tushar Kapoor is staring. That guy is a disaster the way he looks and acts. Another person is Esha Doel, I think it is an insult to our intelegents to make us think that Esha doel can be an actress. I'm sure there are probabely thousands of beutiful and very talaned girls and guys out there in India that if giving apportunity to star in movies can do a far better job than some the ugly actores and actresses we got now. If they don't look at this problem at bollywood they will suffer more. I doubt that they will change anything.

I'm not badmouthing competition. I rather like Planetbollywood. I'm just saying it was a bad article, is that too hard to understand, bias or not?

2002 was a bad year for bollywood? which year isnt?
Bollywood is apparantly in the business of stealing ideas and music and copying movies and calling it their own invention. People dont wanna put up with that shit anymore, its ok for a non english speaker, to watch films copied from hollywood or hong kong movies but people that watch the original film prefer not to sit through the awful bollywood version.
To top it off bollywood comes out with intolerable actors/actresses in their movies.
