I saw About Schmidt today and two of the trailers before the film were for Bend it Like Beckham and The Guru. They weren't very impressive trailers, though. I don't know if the American audiences will go for BILB, though, since they probably have no clue what the title means!

Bend it like Beckham seems like a chick flick. I will try to catch 'GURU', since Jimi Mistry was excellent in 'East is East'. Are these films going to get wide openings or just Arthouse runs like 'Monsoon Wedding' in the US?

I saw the trailers at a major multiplex, so I would assume that BILB will be showing at both arthouse theaters and a few multiplexes at first, then, if it does good business, it will be expanded. I imagine the same is true for The Guru.

I wouldn't term BILB a chick flick. It certainly isn't Ya Ya Sisterhood or anything like that. It's not a great film, but it is entertaining.

I've seen Bend it like beckham on pirated dvd... it's quite a nice film and very funny. No, it is not a Chick Flick.

As for The Guru... it looks funny, but I have a feeling they'll screw it up with stereotypes and all
