Some interesting Old recommendations
UKINDIA.com July 2000

NOSTALGIA

It’s interesting to see what was recommended and what was not in the pre-zulm days. I knew nothing about Indian DVDs at that time.

NOTE THAT ALL THIS IS FOR DVDs IN CIRCULATION AS OF JULY 2000.
This gives you some idea to which version to look for out of the old DVDs that you missed. Also, I am not including all the names here. Just a sample.

RECOMMENDED:

Yeh Waada Raha; Which version is it??

Raja Ji by MDI; How does it compare with SD version??

Sooryavansham: I think they are talking of Super Digital. Quote: One of the best DVDs ever (i.e till July 2000 the reporting date) was on a single layer disc. Plus it has DD 5.1. END QUOTE.

Daag the Fire; Excellent PQ; Which version??

TRIMURTI; I think they are talking of DEI; Excellent PQ (bit rate of 5 to 6.5 mbps) and DD 5.1

This is a fun dvd rana!

btw, i think YWR they meant was Baba digital..hmm!

Trimurti..This DVD is just out of this world. The picture is so sharp and so clear it qualifies for the best DVD ever awards. The average bit rate is that of 5Mbit/sec to around 6.5Mbit/sec. However, every detail seen on this print can seen, even in the dark scenes, which the majority of this film has, is clear.

*** it is DEI!! I agree, absolute pristine!!

Arsh, you found that link. Great.

Looks like those pages are still the same after two and a half Years. Things have changed in between. Not the same version discs are avail anymore (One has to hunt for the old Gold). Its specially true for VS and EVP which have consistently turned Interlaced from the original Progressive.

Noteable, confirmation was the Not Recommended BIWI # 1. The authors of that DVD stated clearly that the DVD was made from a PAL master.

Any idea how to identify the high bit rate (platinum) DEI-EROS version of SHOLAY, if I ever come across it??

I don't think, the version that I have says platinum anywhere.
