hope u guys know that Asif Kapadia now frequents these forums !!! I asked last time if anyone had any questions about the film for him but no one was interested so i didnt bother chasing him up about it. He enjoyed the pics of the Aamir Khan interview so thanks to all who took there time in taking/posting them up.

Anyway lets hope he at least manages to make the shortlist rather then some other films which i need not mention !!!

Why do you say, Devdas is up against Warrior for the Oscar. Neither of the two has been nominated for the Oscar. These are just official entries from their respective countries. One or neither of them may make it to be nominated for the Oscar??

I said that Devdas is up against Warrior for the Oscar because that is the gist of the report given on rediff - I was simply informing zulm members about the report.

Totally agree with that. Actually this statement applies to almost all Indian entries to the Oscars. Last year was one of the rare exceptions. The unfortunate thing for India is that the one movie which stood a real chance at the Oscars, Monsoon Wedding, also was released last year and did not even get entered.

Sanjay I know you are quite passionate abt Monsoon Wedding but pray tell me... did Monsoon Wedding stand a chance against Lagaan in any aspects ?... Let us , hypothetically assume that it did actually enter the Oscars... Now do you think, in retrospect it would have made any dent on the chances of... the Bosnian film ?...

If it is my opinion that you want, then Monsoon Wedding was a superior film to Lagaan, and yes, it stood a far better chance then Lagaan at competing against 'No Man's Land'. But the point I was trying to make was that it is unfortunate that Lagaan and Monsoon Wedding both came in the same year, cosindering that it is very rare for Indian cinema to have a film which is worthy of an Oscar entry.

Doesn't AMPAS have a rule that the foreign language film nominees have to have a certain percent of the footage in the native language? Monsoon Wedding had quite a bit of English dialogue.

Yes they do have that rule, but Monsoon Wedding had enough of Hindi/Punjabi to qualify under the rules.

I think that's stupid. "The Warrior" had good reasons to be in Hindi.
