Seeing the massive response to Saathiya (a copy from the Tamil counterpart Alay Pauthey) its seems that North Indian's (Punjabi) and South Indian's seem to have the better part of composing tunes that meet with the expectations of Desi and NRI youths. Since we all can get Punjabi Tunes easliy via the net I thought of providing some links to some current top soundtrack albums of Tamil movies that continues to innovate on western and Indian music as well as inspire....

....and remember you don't have to understand the language to apperciate the music :)

I started listening to tamil music because I'm a huge fan of AR rahman, and had run out of his hindi songs to listen to. Then I heard the songs of Alai Payuthey by just taking a shot when it came up on a search for rahman on Kazaa.
I was hooked. Then i saw the movie, and teh hooked-ness continues today. I don't know a word of Tamil, but boy do they make great flicks.
I've seen the following, and have enjoyed all TREMENDOUSLY:
Alai Payuthey
Kandukonden Kandukonden
Pammal K Sambhandam
Kannathil Muthamittal
Anandam
Kasi(bit too depressing for me)
Panchathanthiram
Paarthale Parevaasam.

next up for me is Minnale.

if ayone has any other suggestions, do let me know... except for anandam(it was okay) and kasi, I LOVED watching the others.
Requirements are that the movei has to be available on DVD with english subtitles.

I hear "Thenali" is good. Its a remake of "What About Bob?" I haven't seen it myself, though.

You don't have to tell me. I've been listening to Tamil music and watching movies for years. Though I can't understand the language, subtitles on recent DVDs have helped tremendously. I just like good movies and music, no matter where it's from..
