Well these are my choices for the awards this year. In my opinion they are the ones who truly deserve them. Whether this is how they will finally end up at the Filmfare Awards (sic), WHO CARES. They are at best a popularity contest rather than true acknowledgement of great work. Which is what an award is supposed to be.

my choices are:
1) Best movie
a) Lagaan
b) Dil Chahta hai
c) Kabhi khushi kabhie gham

Filmfare awards might give it to K3G or LAGAAN
2) Best Actor
a) Aamir Khan-Lagaan
b) Shahrukh Khan-K3G
c) Aamir Khan - DCH

again might go to aamir if he accepts the filmfare that is cos he is known to boycott awards

3) Best Director
a) Asutosh Gowariker-Lagaan
b) Farhan Aktar-DCH
c) Karan Johar-K3G

that is a tough one as all 3 directors were very good with their respective ventures.

4) Best Actress
a) Kajol- K3G
b) Amisha-Gadar
c) Tabu-Chandni Bar

this one will probably go to Kajol. and i really hope it does as she deserves it completely.

Thanks, I was not sure myself about that. I stand corrected and have modified my post above accordingly.

Come on Ali, these categories are almost as important as the Best Actor & Actress categories. How can you ignore them? Can you imagine Dil Chahta Hai without Saif Ali and/or Monsoon Wedding without Vijay Raj?

Manoj Bajpai's role in Zubeida was most certainly a leading role and not a supporting one.

As much as I like the background score of Asoka, I still would not vote for it because it did not sound authentic to the period portrayed in the movie. For god's sake Sandeep Chowta uses the electric guitar in the score. It was supposed to be 3 century BC.

Sure agree with you on that. Regarding 'Scareface' are'nt we glad the only movie he watched was not Yaadein. :D

Maybe you're right about Manoj Bajpai having a leading role - but it's arguable. Anyway, I don't think his role was weighty enough to warrant a place in the best actor category, yet I liked the role, so I had to put it in:)

About Chowta using electric guitar in the score being its failing, I'll have to disagree. Violins, timpanis, trumpets and trombones were not of the era either, yet no one finds them out of place in "period" Hollywood films. You'd have a very weird, experimental and offbeat score indeed if you really use instruments of the era. It is ultimately a film with "commercial" ingredients meant for mainstream appeal. The fusion of modern and old, fact and fiction, was obviously intentional and quite consistent throughout the film.
