Following Sanjay’s thread it'll be nice to look at what people thought were the best DVDs or worst DVDs in 2001 – of course there only a few good ones so here goes for my selections;

Technically worst DVD sound;

Most disappointing DVD in terms of video quality;

Special lifetime achievement award for disgracing itself and falling from grace in the eyes of the consumer in year 2001;

Ek Rishtaa (DEI) – for video (even with the squashed video problem) and sound quality
Mohabbatein (YRF) – best extras content
Dil Chahta Hai (Spark) – third best of the rest!

A little for hope for 2002;

Asoka (Metrodome)

IMHO=======

Worse DVD video = Any DVD by EROS this year as all of them was dam right awful.

Worse DVD Sound = WEG & Video-Sound still using Dolby Digital 5.1 mono on thier new releases, e.g Ehsaas & Nayak DVD's

DVD that failed upto my expectations = Aks = DEi try thier best to get this film, but EROS got the deal for the film rights in all formats, in all countries (except India). Then the DVD they released brought tears to my eyes as it was bad video quality, with only the 5.1 sound and extras being the saving grace.

Best DVD picture: Pukar (DEI) This old classic looked like a brand spanking new film, and was authored with care and consideration. Wonderful tranfer that should become reference quality for all older bollywood films.

Best DVD sound: 12B (Ayngaran). Pure excellence in every 5 channels!

Best DVD Achivement: Ayngaran = Thier entry into anamorphic was controversial as thier 2.20:1 aspect ratio problem was noticed by everyone and was the most complaints I had received on e-mail. But dispite this thier DVD's are high selling, and the quality on thier new discs are extremely good. They are to expand with DVD's next year by doing all of thier telecine work themselves in brand new labs in London, owned by themselves! So things can only get better.

2) Thenali (Ayngaran)
3) Ek Rishtaa (DEI)
4) 12B (Ayngaran)
5) Dil Chatha Hai (Spark)

My Hope DVD's to excel for 2002:

You wanna see a terrible DVD watch ERO$ DVDs of :

Swarg Yahan Narak Yahan *ing Mithun in Double Role

I really liked the the Mithun movie, SYNY, in which he played the father a cop and the son who hates his father.

Video has major artifacts, lines and blemishes galore.

Audio, even though I do not have a good sound system, scratches and odd sound levels were clearly visible!

Aag Se Khelenge *ing Anil Kapoor, Jeetendra and Kimi Katkar

Video is the same as above, but also "very" blurry!!!

Audio is ditto as above!!!

Both of the these are probably ""THE"" worst DVDs to date!!!
I tried to grabs of the SYNY DVD but it won't play in my Sony DVD-ROM either! Will play fine in my stand alone Panasonic or Pioneer though. ERO$ god knows when they will fix up their shit!

Good DVDs:
