This is a beautiful movie. Thinking about getting the DVD but the review on this site doesnt look very promising. Sides of frames looks chopped off. Should all classics be mutilated in this manner by Eros?

Just wondering if any of you own it/have taken a look at it. Is it any good, and worth the price tag?

Here's some full size Eros Guide DVD shots - which in comparison don't look t bad compared to the Shemaroo DVD – it’s give and take with this DVD – some shots look better on Eros other look better on Shemaroo DVD – neither DVD is really good or really bad!

Man!! shemroo one is just like a NEW FILM on my system, sound!! they did a very NATURAL 5.1 remix not pseudo!! fabulous, just natural, madhur, just like the music was!!
eros i think, pseudo remix!!!eros print show more blemishes, wear and tear!!

you have to have both to see and listen your self!!
EROS!! sound is LOUD!! but LOUD is not better all the time!!

Just spun, both in my system in prog dvd changer!!If you show me both, let me listen and see, I'll pick shemroo..given a choice!!but I am a hard core fan of this film!!
It is not because, I have both versions!! But!! I am HAPPY ,I got other version too!! CHEERS!! take a pick, If u have choice?

If not GUIDE is a BETTER older film transfer by EROS!!!

Eros version looks brighter! While Shemaroo's colour is lively. Agree, This would be from one of those few decent Eros releases.

I tried to find info about the English version of Guide, in the old forum.

http://www.zulm.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=607

Q:
Is Dev Annand's GUIDE based on the novel "The Guide" by R. K. Narayan, who passed away in the last couple of days or so.

Has any one seen GUIDE english (foreign) version??

I remember Dev's interview where he said that the foreign version was made first and is totally different from the hindi version. He had said, "for the Indian version the story and the script of the english version was thrown away and re-written to suit the Indian viewers".

Guide is based on the book 'The Guide' (published by Penguin). However if you read the book you will see that the Hindi version of the film differs tremendously from the book! I have only seen a clip from the English language version - and have been trying to find a copy of this for a while but have had no luck yet.
