A brief background - This film is based on a play called SNAFU penned by the director of this movie (Iqbal Raj - his erstwhile last name was Khwaja for the trivia buffs).
Iqbal was at one time active on the Prithvi circuit (in the late eighties-early nineties) having directed SNAFU (it is an acronym for something that I now forget), SHAKESPEARE KI RAMAYAN (which was banned for its cultural/religious connotations by the stupid culture police), SHAKESPEARE KI HINDI FILM (a resurrection of the earlier play in a new modified avatar). I lost touch of his theatrical activities once I left town and am delighted to see his name re-emerge thus. Needless to say Iqbal is a very talented writer which gives rise to a hope that his maiden film venture maybe something to watch out for.
Apparently Iqbal was spotted by Alyque Padamsee at one of the stagings of SNAFU and promptly hauled away to Lintas (Padamsee was then the MD) as a trainee. Shashi Kapoor(owner of Prithvi) was often sighted at the staging of 'Shakespeare Ki Ramayan' before its ban and was apparently maha impressed with the guy's talent.
Well hopefully this film, which is all about the aspirations of a vernacular boy from Mumbai suburbia will do well in time to come......
There is a link to the film's website elsewhere on zulm.net if you want to search on it and look it up.
The best to Iqbal for his new venture.
