Just to let you know that Ayngaran plan to release the DVD of Sivaji - The Boss next week. It will released in two versions;

1 - Dolby Digital 5.1 version
2 - DTS 5.1 version

There are no plans for a special features disc.

I have watched the DVD, and the quality is on par with Ayngaran recent releases.

DVD transfer looks okay. Crap movie, though. It had some fun with the references to Rajini's style and whatnot, but the villain was weak, and this is more of the same from Shankar.

BTW, the picturization of Athiradee seems to be a combination of Desperado and Eyes Wide Shut :D

I liked the villian, he didn't scream or overact (like most Indian villians) and his beating of Rajini in the prison was really violent.

The screenplay isn't great, but as an Indian Masala film I think its one of the better releases of 2007. The comedy scenes are quite funny, production values are spot on, and the score features Rahman at his best.

The film is the second highest grossing Indian movie of 2007 (after Om Shanti Om), and this has promted Ayngaran & EROS to produce Shankar's next project with Rajini - due in 2010.

This is so disappointing, they first release the dvd so late and it does not even include any special features. Shame on AVM.

The screen shots looks better than a lot of releases, and can't complain for such a movie.

2nd highest grosser? I thought Rajini is box office dada? does this include Telugu dub sales?

Sunny - Ayngaran, 80's classics, Blu

In response to the following posts...

urbanlegend - No idea (I don't shop for Indian DVDs online).

Zoran009 - There were compression problems with the DVD. But trying to fit a 190min film with 5.1 sound is tricky. It would be intresting to know what you consider a decent Indian DVD title?

Bludhound - Plans for Blu-ray are under way. We are currently experimenting with AVC and VC1 codecs.

CRAZYDVDBUYER - We did have plans to release a special features disc. However, AVM rejected the idea. Ayngaran had no say in the matter.

asif - This comes with English Subtitles. EROS has plans to release a dubbed Hindi version on DVD in the coming months.

Yuvan - The box office figure I mentioned only accounts for the Tamil version.

For the most part he wasn't terribly menacing. He walked in slow motion alot, though  I guess we must not have the villain being too charismatic, lest he overshadow Rajini...

The comedy was pretty funny at times, though I was surprisingly let down by the song picturizations, which Shankar usually does well. I loved Athiradee, though, and Style was interestingly esoteric.
