I was wondering about THAKSHAK versions:
As per SD, VS-SD THAKSHAK DVD was interlaced but excellent true DD 5.1.

DVD review of VS-Media Dimensions DVD states Progressive but Pseudo DD5.1.
http://www.zulm.net/modules....-->

Any further info/ clarification??

1)
From Old Forum Threads:
http://www.zulm.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=800

THAKSHAK preview states:

Good
- good detail and sharpness
- decent colour rendition
- good, mostly clean non-interlaced master used
- minor speckles and blemishes but not distracting enough
- superb Dolby Digital 5.1 sound track
- good channel separation and lively effects

Bad
- cropped 1.85:1 aspect ratio from the original 2.35:1 - evident on key scenes
- slight edge enhancement artefacts noticeable on some scenes
- certain scenes seem overly dark and lack detail
- no subtitles or extras on this version see note below

NB: this is a preview of the first release of Thakshak DVD from Video Sound. Thakshak was also later released for a second time by Video Sound with English subtitles and Making of feature (although not entirely 100% on this!) -not seen this second release so can't comment on whether the video is same as this version or not.

Ali,
DOES IT IMPLY
that the first releases of THAKSHAK is in the same league as EROS-DEI 1.85:1 and DD5.1 TITLES??. I ask this because of "- good, mostly clean non-interlaced master used" and superb DD5.1 sound. From the comments above it appears that the second release is crap??. I would like to find and buy this DVD, for my collection, after hearing your comments, if it is similar in quality to EROS-DEI titles.

Thanks.

Rana

2)
Sunnyaudit and Akki was right - third test, watched about 20 mins of the film and you can hear dialog from all speakers. The sound is certainly deceiving and it's not proper DD5.1 - sorry for the misinformation. I'll modify the preview accordingly.

They still seems to be 2 version of Thakshak on release; one without any subtitles which was the first release and the other with subtitles and making of feature as advertised by superdvd.com – also the one kishan has. I reckon picture and sound will be the same on the second version.

Ali

Thanks.

Rana

Any one, with info on the 2nd DVD release of Video Sound THAKSHAK??

The first release was progressive, Pseudo 5.1 , no sub-titles and no extras.

The second release had subtitles and extras. Any one with any info whether it's Progressive and if it has true 5.1 audio??

Both are mainly Media Dimension discs. There may be a few by Super Digital, which is supposed to be true 5.1 ??

In the old forum (have to start new thread as old forum is not postable), THAKSHAK audio is found as Pseudo 5.1 and not true 5.1.

Is there any version that is:
True 5.1 audio??
Is it Progressive as well??
(Heard of a Super Digital version that's true 5.1??)

I have this DVD and I can say that this version has poor mono 5.1 sound which is not pure. Another screw up by Video-Sound & Super Digital

Hmmm the one I have is by Video Sound/Media Dimensions and does definitely have a proper DD5.1 track - I double checked it Like I said in the preview Video have re-released it, maybe you have that version?

I also have the Media Dimensions version and though the DD 5.1 sounds good on first impression, there is no channel seperation! Dialogues and everything else can be heard through all five speakers throughout the film. Maybe occasionally a sense of channel seperation is "felt" because the music etc. does sound reasonably good, and the bass is also decent.

Just checked it !

ali wrote:
Akki the one you have, does it have English subtitles? or is the menu exactly the same as on the preview - I think I’m going to have to triple check it But when I checked it there was noticeable channel separation on gun fights, crowds noises and vehicles zooming past one from one speaker to the other. Then again I can't remember checking the spoken dialog - will check again tonight to give a definite verdict

akki wrote:
I guess I have the same version you have Ali. It's without subtitles and has the same menu. I bought it within one/two weeks of its release by Videosound.

At least the voices are heard from every corner, but I will also re-check some of these gun shots !!!

I saw the second release by Video-Sound and the quality
seems similar to the first release but there is a making
of feature with interviews with Govind Nihalani and
Ayay Devgan.

Thanks Rana!! for taking all this time to sum up the threads!!

Now here is my take:

I was finaly finaly able to find, SUPER DIGITAL version dvd of Thakshak, as mentioned in ali's review containing, making and sub titles.

1.Original VS dvd with no sub titles, reviewed by ali, authored by media dimension has prog video but pseudo 5.1, huge unfavour to this sound track..but it is pretty loud..others good sound tracks gone down the drain this way, esp One two ka four by SD themselves, who screwed up that dvd hugely.

2. Revised version of VS dvd Thakshak, was authored by SD, making, sub titles were added and defying norm this time, stayed PROG and does have TRUE 5.1 sound indeed.Other SD dvds who were authored for VS prog and have excellent 5.1 was TJCG and LKLKBK.

3. Nayak dvd by VS was authored by media dimension, bomb dvd always, not prog and did not have 5.1 sound.

so here:

is absolute truth.

and statement by ali, was presumption , I guess based on his previous long experience by these wanka companies, screwing up history:

ali, bhaii expected, first release with no sub titles, being PSEUDO 5.1 but in absence of having second version on hand, he could not conclusively comment.

But to stay corrected:

SECOND RELESE WITH SUB TITLES, MAKING, AUTHORED BY SD indeed HAS TRUE 5.1 SOUND> :P

Arsh, I guess, you implied that you had seen (heard) the Pseudo 5.1 version and now with this version you can see the difference between Pseudo 5.1 and real 5.1 audio?? If not, must send a copy to Ali/ sunnyaudit/ akki, who noticed Pseudo 5.1 originally, for confirmation.

Assuming true 5.1 audio, Congratulations to arsh who hunted this DVD out (or got his hands on this DVD by chance), that took over two years to find. :D
Not only did you find true 5.1 but Progressive as well. :D :D

-------------------

Is this version commonly available or is this disc from some old stock??

Thanks Rana!! Indeed it implies, that I have both version, and can tell, orig was pseudo 5.1 and later SD version has true 5.1. No doubt finding SD version still prog was a real rewarding! 8)
