...Do you...do you like get commission from Yash Raj Films, or something? I was under the impression that YRF's release of Darr is inferior, in all ways, to DEI's.

Oh...thank god. I agree that YRF tends to go a good job with the packaging; I guess they're the poster-children for "don't judge a book by its cover" (I'd honor Eros with the title, but, well, their covers aren't exactly all the pretty [most of the time], either).

YRF DARR is anarmorphic and has a wider aspect ratio than DEI.
DEI has better sound but seems like it has been slowed down like all their other titles. I guess this is because of its progressive frame nature.

DEI looks as though it has been enhanced from a video source.

Progressive frames or 24 fps is original film speed. Film to PAL, if done properly, is 4% faster. So, you can call DEI one 4% slower than YRF "Film to PAL to NTSC field averaged" or you can call YRF "Film to PAL to NTSC field averaged" 4% faster than DEI one.

You can't say, "DEI --- seems like it has been slowed down like all their other titles" as they are the original speed and could not have been slowed down.

New deep, could you scan the cases and cover boxes, and post it on zulm, so we can see just how different they are....

Rana, I am not too technical as you, but i find the voices very deep on DEI old titles on NTSC. I didn't like Hera Pheri (old) on DEI as the colours were dull and grey, voices were too slow compared to the PAL VCD I had. Isn't film to PAL a more accurate speed?

Lamhe DVD just released in India -
http://www1.yashrajfilms.com/homeent/yr ... m#lamhedvd

Darr DVD just released in India -
http://www1.yashrajfilms.com/homeent/yr ... tm#darrdvd

Both are cardboard slip cases containing really nice jewel cases (inside which are the DVDs) and nice artwork.

Lamhe and Darr previous U.K./U.S. releases can also be seen at the same site for comparison.

And yes, YRF Darr being non-cropped is the better choice (over DEI). Irrespective of how good or bad the PQ or audio is, if the picture is cropped, all the good quality is not really worth it. I'd rather watch a grainy noisy uncropped DVD than a high quality cropped DVD.

and I agree, an orig WS AR anamorphic enhanced does make a lot of difference to me too, simply the film starts looking fabulous!! look at French Bhoot and Sholay!
