The anamorphic version is a fuller aspect ratio and appears to have better colors, but is softer than the cropped version. Frustrating!

Now I will be blamed for picking up bad shots!!

Well, I never saw the film in the theatre! So, I cant comment on the ORIG COLOR PELLETE! I'll be surprised, if they used HUGELY YELLOWISH/MUTTED tones!!? I remember SOUTH INDIAN FILMS with REALLY CLEAN/PURE COLOR OVERTONES..VERY VIVID not murky!!

But, If u prefer those..NP..

I must say, as beauty is in eyes of beholders, then color accuracy might be too?

Mhafner, Liked PRETY in that ULTRA SHORT CUT, I did not!! Even I like her too!! I think, with PREITY Kinda BIG/ROUND face, this kinda CUT is NO NO!! same was those atrocious BANGS in ARMAAN! that is from AESTHETIC point of view, not by PREFERENCE!

It seems that the AYANGRAN logo can be seen during songs. Again something that would make me buy the cropped version. Plus the sharpness of the picture is very attracting on the cropped version. The only reseason to buy the anamorphic would be only to see the original aspect ratio.
What about the sound ? is it really better on the anamorphic one ?

You have look very carefully and you will see that the anamorphic version too is cropped/ matted at the top, as compared to the other version, not by very much though.
Cropping/Matting from top/ bottom is not as bad as in EROS Anomorphics MANN, Taal, --- etc.

The colors appear more intense in the anamorphic version.

Here it looks like there's a bluish cast to the old version.

Either color setting is fine for me. Color settings can easily be adjusted on the display. Field Averaged can't be brought back to original frames.

For all people who don't understand Tamil and read the english subtitles, be aware that the anamorphic version of KK (with the DTS) has a lot of synchronisation problem regarding subtitles. Approx 1 hour before the end of the film, the subs start to be messy : you watch a scene without any subs and during the next scene you can read the subs of the previous one. And that all the way until the end of the film. Plus sometimes we can see problems like : "when@@@@@".

Second problem : the DTS track is almost 1 second ahead of the picture, so the lips mouvements doesn't match the sound. I switched to Dolby Digital and it was OK.

So for people like me who don't understand Tamil, they should go for the other version which I think doesn't have any subtitle problem.

Acquired the original release of this DVD after picking up the new DTS version. Original non DTS version is miles ahead of the new one. New version is Field Averaged.

Original version, except for the progressive flags, essentially is Progressive. Repeated field doesn't even blink. Repeat Field is even better than the best I have seen before in some Hindi EVP Pseudo-Prog DVDs. Even the cheapest Line Doubler chips will have no trouble in picking up 2-3 pull down. PQ is sharp, Colors vibrant, Bit rate usually above 6.5 mbps etc. etc.

So I guess I'll have to get this original version. Only minor drawback : it's slightly croped.

I hope the subtitles are normal on this one.
Is there this same synchronisation problem on other Ayngaran DVDs ?

I don't call it cropped. It's just a different frame. Orig version has a bit extra pic at the top and at the bottom. I would say, total pic area covered by the two frames of the same shot is the same.

Actually, I prefer the kind of framing as in the original version of this DVD as I hate pic with heads and feet chopped off.

So, I'm calling for everyone who has that orig version :
Does the first Ayngaran edition of KK has also this synchronisation problem with the subtitles ?
