Hey, shouldv'e watched this film on Channel 4 in July '02. The print was MUCH better than the DVD, and the subtitles were PERFECT!

P.S. Since when was Ash flat-chested? ???

Many months back I rented the a Kandukondain Kandukondain" DVD by Ayngaran.I think it's pirated. The cover had both DTS and Dolby Digital logo, even on the disc.On playing the DVD I found it had only 5.1 Dolby Digital that too not true 5.1.It's just ordinary stereo with the fronts echoing in the surrounds.Because it's mixed it only in 5.1 I can't use Dolby Pro Logic II.

The picture is just like the ones I've seen here.

I've had a similar experience with Muthalvan DVD from Ayngaran. But it's sound quality was good though not 5.1.Fortunately they mixed it in Dolby Digital 2.0.It's sounded good with Dolby Pro Logic II.

There are also other cases.South Indian DVDs of mono movies show they are 5.1(on the cover as well as the audio setup menu). But it's only mono present in all the channels. They should mention the proper formats like the Hollywood DVDs.

Don't know the quality of the DD 5.1 sound but some of the original Ayngaran DVDs including Kandukondain Kandukondain had both the DD and DTS logos on the covers – Ayngaran muppets pulling a con trick :fight:

Ditto pirate copies of Ayngaran DVDs do exist. The list is on their website, probably in the section where you can buy DVDs.

When a true 5.1 track was available theatrically, Ayngaran will put it on DVD, but when the original was mono, they will create a pseudo 5.1 track.

I don't think Ayngaran put a proper 5.1 track on Dhill and Kasi - not sure if they have theatrical 5.1 tracks, but were qutie recent films, so I assume they did.

This version is cropped to ~1.85:1 and has DD 5.1. No DTS like the cover states.

This disc features a fuller aspect ratio and is 16:9 enhanced.

The first 2 are in the original Tamil language. This version is dubbed in Telugu. I have not seen the disc myself, but I have seen other KAD discs, and it probably features poor quality cropped video and a mono or pseudo 5.1 soundtrack. Avoid it.

The version shown on C4 and Ayngaran DVD came from the exact same source material. The only improvement made was the subtitling on the C4 version.

Also right now Rajiv Menon is busy finalising his forthcoming Tamil/Hindi project that will be annouced any time soon. Only then can he devote some time to supervise the telecine transfer for the special edition.

I'm *hoping* Ayngaran will release Boys in a DTS version. I'll be getting that one for sure.

hey a correction guys... that second cover up there is not anamorphic!! I have that version yet inside the version is disc from the first cover (same artwork, misleading DTS logo, etc.).

The sound is true 5.1 and is very good, but the video is about 1.85:1 or perhaps 2.0:1 non-anamorphic widescreen.

So which version is the good one ? Or do we have to wait for another version ? I'm hesitating to buy this movie in DVD because of this thread...
