Urban Legend, is your cover the same as this

Yeap ant it states that it is 150 mins on the cover but when I play it it ran 164mins and I believe it had all the songs intact. The song menu looks exactly like the PAL R2 version. The rest looks like the NTSC errorneous version Ali posted except where it says Audio in special features it says Audio/Subtitles.

As I remember when Asoka was in USA and UK there were two versions in NTSC one with removable subtitles one without. Whether they are legit or not is still any bodies guess.

I think the version you got is the one socas received from DVD Empire.
Check this thread for more info on this version with the removable subtitles and the Malay sub option:

Go to the second page, and read the last 5-6 posts. The screenshots from your dvd aren't available anymore though.

Something I thought I would add is that Asoka can be view in 3 ways:

16 X 9 mode
4:3 Letterbox mode
4:3 Pan & Scan mode

I believe Rana had mentioned once that Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge was the 1st disc which used the 4:3 p&s mode...well here is another one, so now there are two. I wonder if there are anymore out there or will be in the future.

you mean there is a option on the dvd to choose between the three ratios?

You can set your DVD player to 16:9 (on 4:3 stretched), Letterbox, or another function (I believe) every DVD player has is 4:3 Pan & Scan. It zooms in on the picture for 4:3 tvs and the almost fills the screen and the images are not stretched. Therefore, if you dont have a 16:9 tv and want the image to fill most of your screen with this DVD and TNBP you can choose 4:3 P&S mode.

Just a minor correction:
What I said was that TNBPG was the first “DEI” DVD that can be seen in 16:9 (anamorphic), Letterbox and also in Pan&Scan.

Long before, few EROS titles had this option as well (EROS didn’t/ doesn’t know about it). I have “Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega” and “Josh” (perhaps Dhadkan as well), for over a year, which have this option. They were interlaced though, not like DEI Film mode.

I am not sure, what you get now. Recently I bought “Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega”, for my friends (I am not sure if it was a bootleg copy but it looked genuine). It was not anamorphic and the picture was stretched (33%) vertically (I returned it). Either EROS goofed in this batch or may be it was a replicated bootleg.

Rana

Despite this option, I still prefer Metrodome, (playable on PC DVD) version. It may or may not have this option, I don't know. US version is copied from Metrodome and hence involves PAL to NTSC conversion.

From the review:
Quote:
The songs unfortunately aren't memorable and seem redundant.

Does anyone completely disagree with this? I think Asoka is some of Malik's best work to date. This confirms my theory that Rachel Dwyer blows (or should I say lisps?).

I'm with you on that one, Asoka has some great music, one of Anu Malik's best along with Border and Refugee.

Maybe the reviewer was commenting on the songs in the context of the film. Although Asoka did have good music, it didn't fit well with the movie.

I just got a rental copy of the Asoka R1 DVD as Im in the US, and it sucks. I thought Columbia released it but its actually FirstLook, and even worse, the subtitles often disappear into the left or right of the screen. The quality isn't very good either, with the songs being the worst. Also, the 2 subtitles options were in Malay and English, which I found strange. There were a few extras such as the 'Great Battle' etc.
Was this a bootleg?

Heres the question : Which version of Asoka is the best? I have a Daewoo multi region DVD player, so I can view R2 as well. If R2 is the best, which place online has a good price on it? Thanks! Would IndiaWeekly be able to carry it?
