Guys... if the DVD is single layered, then the media doesnt really matter (or does it ?)... The logic is like this :-

The dvd, when it is dual layered, screws up as the bonding agent between the two layers gets oxidized... (Ag - > Ag2O (silver oxide)).
If its a gold media disc it generally doesnt happen. Now if the DVD is single layered this problem shouldnt occur as there is "suppposedly" no double layer in the disc.

Has anyone noticed any freezing problems with their single layered discs ?
I had some discs (now returned) that were dual-layer, but the skipping/freezing problem happened not only after layer change but also in the chapters in Layer 1...

would just like to share a sad, sad story since we're on the topic of faulty discs. i was watching dil chahta hai last night and two thirds of the way through, i was feeling especially proud of the fact that this was the third time i was watching my dch dvd and i've had absolutely no problems with freezing/skipping so far. 'those poor zulmis with inferior discs' i thought to myself. but then it happened - after the opera scene the video started pixellating and the sound was disjointed. then suddenly, i found myself watching akshaye and saif talking in the hospital - i missed a few very important scenes. i rewinded, forwarded, paused, and played but nothing i did allowed me to watch those missed scenes. i watched the remainder of the film with the sour feeling that i have just been robbed of one of my favorite movies by bad media. i am sad to say that i am now a member of the dch faulty dvd club.

does anyone have the facilities/know-how to rip and burn dch onto two dvd-rs (pre-intermission on one, post-intermission on the second)? i'm sure you'll find a lot of customers here on zulm.

I pity you dude!! :'(

I too have experienced this.

I was watching Hum Dil De on BE and was amazed and thrilled with the DVD quality. But the scene in which the family finds out that sameer and nandini are in love, started freezing and it froze all the way to the marriage scene, leaving me depressed. :'(

When I was small, I had thisgreat misconception that only gold discs have good video quality and silver ones have bad quality.

Btw, some DVDs don't allow us to play 2x (2 speed) properly.

Shemaroo is one of them.

What's the reason??
Any idea??
