I totally agree with dvdunlimited guy.
Virumaandi is a very enjoyable film and you don't feel like, REALLY DON'T FEEL, like watching the film twice. No need to add that Direction and Acting is flawless. The Best Tamil Movie of the Year! (So far)Full Stop.

Checked this DVD if it's Progressive.
It indeed is.

BTW, this DVD as well as Kaaka Kaaka and Boys all have DTS option for audio. You set it up for DTS and check audio and the info comes out as DD @ 448 kbps?? I'm sure DTS track is there and a DTS encoder will output DTS, but why the info flashes as DD??

Another note:
All three (perhaps all other Ayyangran DVDs too) are on Silver media. Are the discs on Gold media in UK??

Ayyangran being a reputable company, giving state of the art DVDs, using Silver media doesn't make sense.

Kaaka Kaaka and Boys, both are Progressive. Have option for selecting DTS track. If it really plays DTS, I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure my copy of Kaaka Kaaka is on gold media, but it is currently with a friend so I can't check. Maybe you looked at the extras disc, which was on the left side of the case I got.

Actually, to be more distinctive, I would say that Kaaka Kaaka movie DVD has a very slight tint of Gold. On a scale of Old DVDs at 100% Gold and most of the current crop at 20% Gold and Time Bomb Media Dimension DVDs at 0% Gold, Kaaka Kaaka is just 5% Gold.
Extras disc is 100% Silver (0% Gold), but that's OK as the extras disc is Single layer perhaps.

If you select the DTS option from the disc menu, the movie will play the DD track. If you select the play option and then change the audio selection from PLAYER menu it will play as DTS.

I just got my copy..the VIDEo is VERY VERY SOFT, and colors are not very nice either..KINDA DULL affair!

Now I realized as SUNNY AUDIT said, to get rid of the grain(that is less obvious on this disc) ayangran, indeed filtered out detail sharpness, to make video, dull/lusterless..no pitty!

i WOULD REQUEST ONE OF video tech expert GUYS FROM ZULM, LIKE DRAGUN TO COMMENT, HOW DID THEY SCREWED THIS UP!

high frequencies FILTERED????

Hi Sunny,

Do you have any info whether RaajKamal Films has plans to release Virumaandi under BMD or any other label?

I just finished watching Virumanndi. The PQ could've been so much better. It is not grainy as some of the other Ayngaran dvds. But the picture looks washed out and lifeless. The DTS sounded very good. The dialouges for most part and the effects sounded excellent from the use of sync sound.

I really enjoyed the movie. I really liked how the story of Virumaandi's incarceration was told from different prespectives. The special effects were tastefully done and they didn't went Shankar crazy. The performances by Kamal Hassan and Abhirami was really good.

I watched the Virumaandi DVD tonight. I agree that the video is soft. If it looked like this on my 4:3 TV, I can only imagine what it looks like on a 16:9 display. This is probably the longest movie I've seen fit on one DVD with DD and DTS tracks, at 174 minutes. Arsh, Darius, could either of you post some shots?

I thought the movie was good, but like most movies written by Kamalhassan, it was sort of overstuffed with (SPOILER, highlight to read) the riot sequence at the end, but it wasn't overlong or boring. The performances were all good. Was part of the dialogue looped in later? Some of it doesn't sound like sync sound.
