DVD Collector, may I ask where you got your copy from. Did you get it from Indiaweekly?

I actually picked it up at a store called "Video Palace" on Airport Rd. in Missessaga(it's near by my workplace). They had about half a dozen of the Elite version of the film in stock for $8.99.(I know it seems ridiculous to pay that much since Indiaweekly has it for $5.99, but quite honestly, I was blood thirsty for this film).

Add $4 shipping and handling to it at indiaweekly and it is going to cost more.

ok thanks yaar. I love this film as well. That scene where Akash unintentionally calls Sid's house and then breaks down in tears is also my favorite. And, I love that song "Tanhayee", it's beautifully shot. Anyways, I'm going to go ahead and order it.

Thanks.

I'll probably try to find this as well ...

... so far I have 3 copies of the first release by Spark with 2 different covers (all crap and none of them play), the Spark single disc re-release and the Indian release by Sony.

This new version looks really good and hopefully will mean that I can bin the multiple copies that I have.

It's one of my top 10 Bollywood films. There is no HD transfer for now so I guess I should buy the new DVD since it's the best source for years to come.

You are spot on which is why i considered this one of the best films in last 5 years ( prob more if you had given bigger time period - remember your thread ;) )

i belong to the camp which considers Bollywood a derogatory term esp. for such good films, so from now on i request zulmies ( and others alike) to start referring to "good" films as "Indian Cinema ".

Yeah, I agree. Bollywood should be a derogatory term used for films that are copies of American or other foreign films, like that from the Bhatt camp, Sanjay Gupta's offerings and many others. They are now copying films from other parts of Asia like 'Naina' was a copy of 'The Eye'.

Maybe Sanjay Leela Bhansali should be put in the same camp. Black is a copy of the miracle worker, but I can't compare since I have not seen the original. But even his other great work Khamoshi looks like it took it's story from an oscar-nominated German film of the same year - 'Beyond Silence'. Even his Devdas is not original! If he does a remake of 'Sahib Biwi aur Ghulam' that would not be his original work. Has he done anything orginal apart from 'Hum dil de chukke sanam'?

By the way Dil Chahta Hai will be show on Channel 4 in the UK on Thurs 10th November at 12AM. So it would be a good idea to record it as it will have English subs, the quality will be excellent as usual and it won't have those freezing problems!

Mr_Khiladi-ji, even HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM was a copy of WOH SAAT DIN, starring Anil Kapoor, Padmini Kolhapure & Naseeruddin Shah.

I know its too late, and you posted at the time when I was really busy with so many things (life work balance!) and yes, this is the DVD that we are selling for the last 6 to 9 months. Since its from Spark only I didnt bother to post the new picture on the site, may be I should post the new pic.

I saw this at a friend's place on the weekend, and he swears it was a legit version, but the disc was riddled with pixellation. Mainly it was only noticeable on camera pans and particularly songs (Jaane Kyon and Koi Kahe coming off the worst).

I checked the disc on the computer and it was indeed a dual layer disc, usually a giveaway on non-legit discs. Is this film really released so badly on dvd ? Are there any good versions out there ?

I now a HD version is being worked on but that's out of my league for the next few years.

I think the original spark DVD had good picture quality but it had freezing problems. So after a while you were left with a coaster! See the link below for screen shots.

from that thread, it sounds like my friend may have had the original spark release. There is mention of the song Jaane Kyon looking really bad on the original Spark dvd.
