I have to say that on my setup the difference is not too noticeable unless you are really looking for it.

Could you tell us the components in your setup as a reference point?

I would like to know too! set up, display, play back, vision, all matters lol

P.S. If anyone knows of a widescreen/anamorphic or not version of 1942: A Love Story...please do let me know. So far, I have the EROS & DEI versions...but I believe both of them cut off the sides. God I hate that so much. Give me the whole frame please...and I wouldn't care if it's progressive or not nor anamorphic or not. What's the point of watching a movie when you've destroyed the director's vision?!!!

The best 1942 we have is from DEI(luckily) but unfortunately cropped! It is criminal to crop WS dvds. If OAR can be restored but not cropped/chopped! :( It is unfortunate that with all those technologies, equipment etc, shemaroo is still making cropped dvds mostly and even cropping anamorphic new dvds at times!

It is UNFORTUNATE VVC created such a hoopla mess re sending his crap film to oscar but can not get it done!his better films mastered right for dvd! He was lucky sony owned MK! and we will get a good bluray dvd in matter of time for MK and Lagaan, but I wish Asoka should make to BLURAY too!

Thank God ZEROS did not get a chance to screw this one! Parineeta was UTV/EXCEL.

He should acquire it asap, or wait for bluray!

I live in Cerritos just 1.5km away from Little India...

As for your first question, not important to discuss here, sorry :)

farooq,

Hope that post didnt come across as "it wasnt much better" because that's not true at all, i was just making an observation.

As for what I viewed it on, I have two setups. One is a 57" Hitachi 1080i rear projection television. Yes I know it's old technology but I think the picture quality on this set is still heaps better than some of the newer plasmas and lcds (although its definitely not as sharp). That's just connected to a regular dvd player via component output (there's no HDMI capability on the tv) so the tv upscales to 1080i. On this setup, any PAL-NTSC transfers or vice versa show up very badly but pseudo-progressive discs come out without too many problems.

The second set is a newer 46" Sharp Aquos LCD which is 1080P, again connected to a regular dvd player via component output. I should really get a HDMI upconverting player but I havent yet, mainly because the picture generally looks quite good anyway upscaled by the TV. This set handles both PAL-NTSC (and vice versa) or pseudo-progressive discs fine. The one thing I notice on this set more than the older tv is digital artifacting. I dont know if this is because its sharper and every defect is amplified but it definitely shows up more problems than the Hitachi.

The remastered disc looks better on both, but like I said, on a general viewing you wouldnt notice it unless you were specifically trying to compare the two.

Also, Farooq you have a PM.

I was going to write about the samething Nitin77 already wrote...

When viewing the EROS DVD on my Sony HDTV.. The DVD looked good, and before I got the DVD I was expecting a dull viewing experience from everything I saw posted about the DVD in this post.

Again this mainly because my Panasonic DVD player is upcoverting the DVD before sending video to my HDTV.
