Then, what about the SS from the extras disc ??

May be, there are two DVD releases, one disc and two disc ??

Even though Shemaroo website says 1 disc - they have the same picture of the cover with the 2 disc set on the top right - go figure

Thanks Ali for the clarifying shot. The two disc set cover that you posted clearly has " 2 Disc Film " logo on the cover. The DVD I bought, doesn't have that. So, I'll return my pkg, un-opened, for the 2 Disc one. Of course, if the store agrees to open the case and show me the two discs, I'll keep it.

If thier DVD of 'Ek Chalis Ki Last Local' is any indication, then there should be no 5.1 sound. All you can expect is 5 channels combined into 1 channel (mono) and then that sound being fed to all 5 channels. This new trend of companies like Shemaroo selling the Indian rights to Moser Baer has really screwed up whatever little quality one could expect from DVDs released in India.

I agree.
But, Moser Baer has been emphasizing 5.1 surround sound in their ads of the Apne DVD -- and the ads are quite good (the ads are good, note please, no comment on the dvd yet ;))

BTW, I watched Apne in theatre and there was very poor surround sound, it was front-heavy -- it was like they were playing dts on a backup surround track instead of playing with a dts disc.

How's Shemaroo in 5.1 on this?

And aspect ratios of Shemaroo vs Moser Baer -- same? and both cropped?

That may have something to do with the theater you watched it in. By the way, what city are you at and also what theater did you watch the movie at.

But, I watched it in New Delhi -- Satyam Cineplex, Nehru Place -- amongst the best in Delhi ;-)

Satyam is definately one of the best if not the best theater in Delhi, but there is one issue with Satyam theaters. They have 2 different size screens and their smaller screen theaters do not have a very good sound. I have had several bad experiences with their smaller screen theaters, therefore I only watch a movie at Satyam if the film is showing on the larger screen. As for Apne, it probably was showing on the larger screen so I guess it must be some other problem.
