What the hel is this cover? By the ways of teh cover it looks like a ROMCOM!!!
C'mon Ayngaran, you screwed up the cover of Kaakha Kaakha and now Virumaandi! Who decides on those awful cover art...
And as prviously said no effort on the supplmemnts side I guess?
A waste of a great opportunity to deliver us a remarkable DVD.
I hope at least PQ and Sound are commendable.

When is it releasing?

Mr. Arsh

We go by what Ayngaran and our US distributor says. I am not a technical expert. We are mere retailers. We will have the DVD tomorrow, so we can scan the backside cover and publish to people over here.

We appologize if it is incorrect. We will remove it from the website. If the cover says Dolby and DTS, we will put it back again.

Thanks

hi guys, i have the dvd. OK the video is somewhat good in some parts but is overall very grainy in other sequences. The details and colours are Ayngaran quality, but the graininess really detracts from the viewing experience. The audio is in both DD and DTS and sounds like accurate 5.1 mixes - not the pseudo mono stuff. There are some directional effects from the back, and yes there is alot of front stereo effects. The DTS soundtrack is VERY loud and the dialogues are crystal clear.

However, here's the bad part - the movie is UTTER crap. It is not only set in dark and nasty depressing settings, but not really much happens and Kamal really tries too hard to prove a point - yet his message is muddled in the way. I loved Tere Naam, I loved PITHAMAGAN (another depressingly set movie) yet this one is just too boring. In terms of theme, I believe Teen Deewarein had the same message and told it in a much convincing way. What is Kamal thinking.... and what was I thinking when I bought this movie...

DVD Audio ... now aware of.. Ayngaran released Virumandi with Devar Magan and few other combo.. all going more than 75 minutes...

Regarding movie, its for movie lovers.. Its a well directed movie.. Watch it.. you will find the absolute flawlessness in the direction.

the first time i saw virumandi i liked it ...., then when i saw it again i had problems with the movie.

*** SPOILER WARNING ***

1) first u see the "same" scenes twice apparently with a different perspective . the problem is that seeing the movie twice made me sit through same scenes 4 times !!! . if its a mind bender movie ( like memento ) i would not mind. but just imagine if i see it again it makes it 6 times that i will see the same scenes . there goes this movies repeat value ( and hence the need to own a DVD)

2) its starts out like a art movie and ends like a totally commercial movie.

3) having been inspired from Rashamon ( my fav. kurosawa movie) and made by kamal hassan, it could have been much more open instead of taking sides ( showing kamal as a "lesser" of two evils)

4) kamal's whining has to stop or change .., this cliché of his has been over used more than enough by him and his comic counter parts( don’t get me wrong he is a talented actor but he need to find another way to cry !!!)

5) i am not so sure if the script is "flawless" . the bee scene and the courtship scene with abirami (talkinga bout their future son's name etc ...) "seem" to be swaped in time between the different versions. however i need see this again to confirm it ( not sure if i can sit through it one more time)

6) all song picturisation (except the una vida song) were not "impressive"

7) Movie was too long and i hear it was trimmed !!!!

however that said
1) all the supporting actors ( esp abirami) did an excellent job to portray the characters ...
2) songs/music is good ( rustic-folk ..., illayaraja shines here) , did not pay much attention to the BGM though

these are my 2 rupee thoughts on virumandi . i am holding off on the purchase of the DVD for now ( if there is a release with EXTRAS i might reconsider)

So glad the film has come on Dolby 5.1 and DTS.

I remember Ayngaran telling me about Kamal Hassan disputing over the the access over the DA8 tapes, which contains the original steams of the DTS 6 track sound. Hassan was refusing to give the tapes forcing Ayngaran to release the film in mono. Guess it was resolved, nice one :)

I read it was on TFMpage.com and mohankumars.com, but I couldn't find any place online selling it. Maybe it is only available in b&m stores in TN.

Darius, can you give us some screenshots?

Hi

Regarding bee seen, it is again falwless.

1. Seeing the same scene twice will not make you fell like seeing it 4 times, just becuase the camera, music and story are different in each scene. When Kondalathevar tells the story, you see kamal's face and ppl sorrounding kamal. When Kamal tells the story, you see kondalathevan and the people sorrounding him. Its different. Believe me. It is enjoyable.

2. The movie to me started like commercial movie [specially after seeing the movie in Theatre with audiance, it was an ultimate experience when they introduced kamal... hats off to Illayaraja]. It ended differently. I was hoping that we will have the story from Nallamanaicker point of view [ofcouse he got killed, but his son would have told what his father told him!].

4. Kamal's whining... I COMPLETELY AGREE... I AM FAN OF KAMAL.. SO I COULD FIGURE OUT HOW HE IS GOING TO REACT TO HIS GRANDMA'S DEATH... YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRECT. KAMAL HAS TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO CRY...

5. Watch the bee scene again... When Kamal tells the story, he bring a "female bee" back to the "nest?" where as when Kondalathevan tells the story, he goes and destroy the nest

6. Unna vida is picturized very well, but it doesn't go with the movie. Infact all other songs are very impressive, in the sense that it goes with the story.

Some ppl told me it is like "Life of David Gale"... it may be.. in the sense that it begins with "Capital Punishment"... jail scene.... etc., but this is totally native..

BTW, the DVD has DTS and Dolby 5.1 SS.

Thanks
