Damn, I havent seen this movie yet and waiting for the dvd but now due to the dismal release, I think i will now watch a pirated vhs or dvd version. :ffs:
I knew it was silly expecting a decent dvd release from these sh*tbags called Eros. I mean its not too much to ask is it?

Even the cheap budget hollywood b-movies that made little or nothing at the box office have adequate dvd transfers. And those dvds are usually less than £5 to buy. Im not paying £15 for some piece of sh*t made by the kings of sh*t.

U know DOGRAK etc.
Nath has his own point so HE GAVE U FORCEWEAVE..ask him to explain.
For the rest of the vIEWER, KNOWING from EROS track record, I CAN NOT personally expect a BETTER release of DEVDAS from HOUSE OF EROS!! TAKE it or LEAVE it!! Does not matter to me!!

I GOTmine!! First SHOP got it, FIRST CUSTOMER to BUY it!! I think, I will be OK! as I never bought pirated or curtain raiser!!
CHEERS!!
I think, film looked very SIMILLAR in THEATRE!! :baaa:

Dogra :-
IF a DVD has been coded in an interlaced fashion...then when you do force weave, it tries to take the alternate horizontal line scans (from 2 different images) and makes them appear like a complete image. In a regular TV display you will see the 2 sets of scan lines giving you the so called double images. (It can be seen from one of the images..."give me the letter" image)...

If a DVD has been encoded in a progressive format, then this problem doesnt arise as the alternate scan lines are not from different images (aka they are from the same image).

Force-weave is a technique which Ganti had inadvertently found, to detect if a DVD was encoded in a progressive or interlaced fashion and since then this has become a benchmark. You will notice that all Hollywood DVDs and DEI-DVDs and a few EROS dvds do not give combing artifacts like the ones shown above (when in a force - weaved mode...or when you watch the film on ur HDTV)... Neither do they give you double images when you watch them on ur Interlaced TV (or using an auto-select option)...

vese i was thiking along those lines too...

the dvd looks decent. it looks better than most eros releases..just look at the other dvds they have released in the review sections...

its only in forceweave mode(?) that it looks horrendous.

but the thing is that there are no other comparisons in forceweave with other movie dvds...plus also, i don't think that the I or P issue matters, cuz we should first make them make good interlaced discs b4 they do any progressive disks..

anyways, like mastiman says, THUMBS UP OR DOWN? plus, HOW ARE EXTRAS?

also, sknath, i'd still like an explanation as to what that forceweave is used for...

DOGRA...no so long ago there was a company called DEI which DID make good PROGRESSIVE DVDs....

I have noticed something else here... generally in a forceweave mode you should not see double-images. However in this DVD , we can also see Double images in a force weave mode, along with Combing...what can be the reason for that ?

FILM->PAL->NTSC transfer ? ... Anyone ?

I have found that there are many variables with "screen shots" - the quality of the equipment and software involved makes a difference.

Can the same person who did these screen shots post a couple of screen shots from a known quality DVD using the exact same procedure?

I'm thinking of:

- Star Wars I
- Crouching Tiger
- Fifth Element

or perhaps a Hindi DVD for which the picture quality is highly thought of.

Note that the MPEG process used for DVDs is a "lossey" process that depends on removing information that is not noticed by the human brain. The process of creating "screen shots" is essentially counter to the way that MPEG works.

I'd put much more credence in a review by someone who watches 5 minutes of the DVD...

wait and see yaar...don't jump to too quick conclusions..

think this way: you weren't expecting a episode II type transfer...considering eros' previous track record..

if its better than normal eros quality, and is fun (ie. good extras, etc) then i have no problem with a dvd that is not hollywood standard...

we gotta accept what we get... :oh:
