That would be 'Raja Rani' with Rajesh Khanna.

Yes, I have Shemaroo Raja Rani starring Rajesh Khanna, Sharmila Tagore. Touuuu chor main Teri raanii song is in this film.

I also have Baba as well as EROS Raja Jaani starring Dharminder & Hema Malini. Recently I looked at EVP Amaanush (yes, my PC finally recognized the Amaanush disc) DVD that's not full Progressive and still the PQ is miles ahead of any non DEI/ BEI DVDs. If we could find EVP version of Raja Jani, as it was available at one time, it'll be a great find.

Somehow, I think having seen or read discussion about it on zulm ??

(April Fool sure was released by BEI, but as I vaguely recall, Love In Tokyo too was released by BEI ??)

Any recollection if DEI/ BEI ever released Love In Tokyo ??

Current internet search shows YRF, Morerbaer, and one NN brand versions of DVD ??

Love in Tokyo was also released by Spark.

I did pick up Spark LOVE IN TOKYO and it turned out to be a terrible print plus it was rotten in the 2nd layer. Returned and picked up Moserbaer.

Big Surprise! Moserbaer version is excellent. Almost as good as Progressive DEI DVDs. Did not expect this quality from Moserbaer.

It's debatable if it's real Progressive or if it's totally uncut ??

Encoding is 30 fps Progressive but is not one film frame into one video frame (Orig film frames, 24 or 25 fps, have been thoroughly mixed up into 30fps video frames). It's field averaged. Not sure if it got 4% speed up in the process ??
If it got 4% speed up, it's full length. If no 4% speed up, then it's 7-8 min cut.
Film 1976 CC shows 4724 meters, i.e. 172 min, where as, DVD is 163 min.

DVD seems to have been made from a brand new restored film print.
DVD bit rate is pretty high (5.5 mbps). Audio is DD 2 Ch mono @ 384 kbps.

Most of the NFDC DVDs released till now have a similar type of encoding. Read my post here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=12221&p=103721#p103715

Its really puzzling as to whether this type of encoding is really progressive or not.

Do you mean, DEI authored DVDs that were not heard of before ?? Are these, or most of them, Progressive ?? Which movies ??

This, "Love In Tokyo" DVD is by Moserbaer.

Most likely, as India is a 50 Hz country, mastering must have been at 25 frames per sec or 50 fields per sec. 25 frames per sec is Progressive encoding, 50 fields per sec is still interlaced but if it's 4% speed up, picture displays, or can be weaved back, like/ to a Progressive frame. Changing this 25 or 50 frames into 30 or 60 can be done

Either by:
Mixing up all the frames (all 30/ 60 frames will be blurry as they contain more than one film frame) and then make 25 frames out of it or 50 fields. This then can be a Progressive or interlaced encoding but the damage was already done in mixing up of film frames.

Or by:
Keeping all frames in tact but repeating every 5th frame. This is how some of EVP Hindi DVDs were encoded.

Or by:
Mixing up all frames at every stage or in one of the stages and then encode Progressive or interlaced. - - - -

It's conceivable to Force weave a video master, resulting in Combing, and then encode it Progressive which will always have that combing picture whether you watch it on Interlaced or Progressive display.

Basically, if you keep track of film frames and don't let the frames mix up, display frames will be original film frames. This does entail repeating of frames, every 4th or every 5th.

If the frames get mixed up while converting from 24 to 25 or from 24 to 30 or from 25 to 30, all video frames will be blurry.

Technically it's Progressive but made from a ruined copy.

All of these are known DEI/ BEI DVDs and we (between you & me) have them, except "Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gya" that we nver could get hold of and got VS-SD version which actually is as good as DEI. Still, it would be nice to have this title with DEI encoding. Thanks.
