Resistance to change
BIG Music and Home Entertainment CEO Kulmeet Makkar says that the company has no immediate plans to either import or put its own movies on the new formats...." Indian market is not even ready for such high quality products.”

Optical disc giant Moser Baer, which has created a stir the home video market by its low priced VCDs and DVDs, does not support these technologies. Moser Baer Entertainment CEO Harish Dayani says, "Blu-Ray will not work in India, not now, never! I have my doubts about its wide acceptance in the West too."

The DVD market itself is in a nascent stage in India and shows potential for future growth. Hence flooding the market with Blu-Ray technology may lead to disturbance.

If thats right what Izzy is saying, then I don't think they will make the 22nd as a release date.

I will gladly phone them - what's the number and who did you ask to speak to?

I'm very interested in getting OSO and Munnabhai on BD and was looking forwards to watching some HD Indian movies! Thanks Izzy - it's good news at least for now. But Awaaz is right - I don't know if they would make the 22nd release date as they would have to have the discs printed and distributed so perhaps there would be a delay. I still have mine on pre-order.

Blu-Ray.Com has removed OSO from the Jan 22nd Calendar :( Amazon still has it and pre-order still shows Jan 22nd.

Pre-Order date for OSO on Blu-Ray shows Dec 31 1969 :?

According to HighDefDigest.Com Forums HDD Publisher Jed who replied to someone who asked why OSO was removed from the Jan 22nd Calendar:

Sorry -- we should have posted a note here earlier. Over the weekend, we received a note from Eros asking us to pull down the news story and the title page. Although we had confirmed the release with an Eros staffer last week, the distributor now says 'Om Shanti Om' is *not* scheduled for Blu-ray release. I guess we'll find out for sure in a few weeks...

I'll try to give them a call tomorrow. Interesting point about Amazon and OSO Blu-ray. It is the #38 seller in the Blu-ray category and #1179 most popular item in their DVD line-up. Seeing as Amazon only list the blu-ray and seeing as it's only available for pre-order at the moment - that's quite impressive considering how many DVDs Amazon sells!

Does that mean we have to wait until it's reincarnated before we can buy it? ;)

Okay - finally I got through to someone in Eros. There was no one picking it up at the main number but I tried their directory and navigated through to a guy called Nizam. He told me that they are defo releasing this - but it will not be ready for next week - maybe the week after.

So take this news with a pinch of salt - and I guess for all who want it lets wait and see what Amazon does on it's release date! Strange part of the convo was he asked how many copies I wanted - even though I told him I am a customer! I think he may have been out off by my English accent as he asked me if I am calling from the UK! LOL! Anyway - if anyone wants to try to call go through to the main number - press 3 and enter the first three letters of the name (in this case as per Izzy's message I spoke to Nizam).

So that's all I have to report back on. If anyone else does call let us know what happens.
