Hey all
Sorry about being late. I have exams. I still managed to post these shots of the Malayalam hit "Dhruvam," by Joshi, who managed to give us "New Delhi"(hindi and Mallu) and the recent "Dubai," which I thought was technically excellent.

If you want, I can put some shots of Priyadarshan's "Megham" up too.

Let me know!

It might be becos the pics are so small, but the transfer looks decent, though a bit soft. Is this true?

It'd be great if you could put up screen shots of Megham and 12B. Have you seen/heard of the DVD of Chandra Lekha (Mohanlal, Sreenivasan, Pooja Batra and Sukanya. Dir: Priyadarshan)? Its listed at suryausa.com, but none of the other stores seem to be carrying it :(

I'm just wondering, Suryausa once replied to one of my emails saying that most of the older Malayalam DVDs were pan-and-scan. Is this true? Specifically, is Chenkol widescreen, and if it is, how is the quality?

Thanks, Chaver.

I do believe that most early DVDs from SURYA such as "Chenkol" were pan and scan versions. That's the one I remember seeing. It seemed as though it was right off of one of their common VHS transfers of movies. The quality wasn't by no meansperfect. The video, I believe was a little soft, but the picture quality was not bad.

As far as "Dhruvam," it is a very decent transfer. I'll try to put up bigger caps from now on!

The problem with SURYA DVDs is the sound though. Even though they mention Dolby 5.1, it's not even close. It's actually the same ol' mono panned to 5.1 channels. I think all these movies were released in MONO anyways. Back in the day, I don't remember seeing a Mallu flick in Kerala with even Stereo sound.

Will put up shots of "Megham" later today!

Have you checked out any new Mallu flicks like "Ishtam" yet?

Raj
