I have read here in the past that the subtitles for Zubeida do not work in anamorphic mode only in non-anamorphic and this appeared to be confirmed on our player.

However, with some experimentation, set the DVD player to 4:3 PS, started to play the movie, stopped it almost immediately, reset the player the 16:9, pressed play again and the subtitles were there in anamorphic mode! Haven't watched it all the way through to confirm that the subtitles stay though.

I found that with a bit of skipping forwards and backwards in anamorphic mode that the subtitles eventually start working - and do play for the entire movie!
