That article was written and posted on BBC in June 2001 - nothing was every going to be done about it apart from probing. These kind of things comes in waves - once in a while they will probe but take no action

Prices here in USA have really come down from two years ago. At one time certain DVD's released by 20th century Fox were priced at $34 but the same now can be purchased new at $14.99. Most Hollywood studios including MGM,Warner,
Universal's prices have remained between $19.99 to 27.99.
New releases at Big outlets like Best Buy DVD's can be purchased at almost bargin prices within the first week of release for example both jurassic Park 3 & Rush Hour were priced at $16.99,Pearl harbor at 17.99 and Godfather set was priced at $64.99. Big rental chains like Blockbuster also sell used DVD's once pulled from rental shelf's for example I bought Final Fantasy for $11.99,Driven for $9.99 & just a few days they had a special buy 2 used and get one free.

I have also noticed that several Hollywood studios are having their DVD's produced in countries like Mexico because it's cheaper. My only guess for pricing to be higher in UK and Europe could be to recover shipping costs and other costs?
