I remember ages back people asking for this film on DVD - its just been announced as region1 DVD release;

Kino Entertainment is about ready to release the Oscar nominated documentary Himalaya on DVD for the first time. Set against some of the most spectacular scenery ever seen on film, "Himalaya" tells the story of a generational struggle for the leadership of a tiny mountain village between its proud old chief and a headstrong young caravaner. The balance of power shifts uneasily as they make their annual salt trek across the Himalayas. "Himalaya" is presented in its original anamorphic widescreen ratio with a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack in its original Tibetan with optional English subtitles and a director's audio commentary. The disc also contains a 26-minute making-of documentary, The "Himalaya" electronic press kit and the original theatrical trailer. "Himalaya" comes closer to home on March 5th with the DVD release for $29.95
